Life After Gun Control

UK knife amnesty’s have been going on for ages. Typically they get lots of carving knives handed in. The people don’t realise there are factories churning out millions of them every day. Oh and the odd machete their Grandad got in WW2 and a Swiss Army Knife.

Guns were banned years ago, but then they banned the use in sports clubs of automatic weapons, hunting rifles etc. Since owndership of weapons like this was banned (even only for secure club use) the incidence of weapons crime went up.

People think Coppers aren’t armed here, maybe the village bobby isn’t or the local copper in his Vauxhall Astra but all the coppers round my way are packing MP5’s because all the bad lads are tooled up !

Don’t think banning knives with blades over 2 inches helps much though.

The gun amnesty’s are way more interesting in the UK. People hand in anything from replica’s to ww2 Mauser’s and MP40’s and Luger’s. One in Manchester, a guy handed in an 84mm Carl Gustav bazooka. In Northern Ireland we routinely found M16A2 and American Arms, they were not getting that off the the Chinese or Ebay, some naughty American people no doubt.

Also, you shy away from reading anything you don’t agree with.

Is your world view so weak that it crumbles when challenged?

Your mistake is assuming you are a challenge. Quite the opposite - you are a joke. No one takes anything you say down here seriously. Engaging in “debate” with you is like one of us challenging a retarded kid to a foot race.
That’s insulting to retarded kids everywhere…

Every year my department hosts officers from the UK, South Africa and Australia on an exchange program. We have no problem with them coming to us armed but without fail the UK officers don’t carry a sidearm. Now I wanted to know if you could explain to me the difference between a Bobby and a Constable. I know there are differences. Which would be closest to the US Police Officer? In the officer exchange the UK peace officers are Constables. Some states in the US still have Constables and a little known fact is that they are elected to the position. Is it the same in the UK? I’m glad that the UK officers are starting to arm themselves, no matter what the public thinks. Law enforcement is a dangerous job made even more so if no one respects the officers. And while some people think it barbaric to gain respect by carrying a sidearm (or MP-5) on the street you take respect any way you can! Now if I can only get on this exchange program myself and get sent to Australia all expenses paid!

Or you could get yourself sent to the UK and learn somathing about the situation over there before you begin lecturing them.

You’re right. I am retarded. Or at least, I was.

I was retarded enough to think that an intelligent discussion with you would be possible.
But now it seems that, when someone puts up a link, you don’t read the link. You don’t even consider reading the link. Instead you just claim that is is “famously biased”. And that’s it. Nothing further needs to be done.

But I can play this game. With the same lack of effort, I’ll end this discussion by dropping the big one.

You sir, are “famously biased”.

There.

Ippon.

I’ve won.

Hey, don’t look at me. You choose the level of this “discussion”. Gee, you can’t even win this at your own level.
Can’t even win from a retarded kid. What does that make you?

A busy man.

I don’t haave time to read every article that is linked.

Since this thread is about the UK banning knives I figured a NYT article on gun control and “Republican Pigs” was not on topic.

Your synopsis told me enough. I am very aware of the small number of FFL holders that cause most of the problems and the fact the BATF never goes after them. This is not news. It is an age old problem. It has lasted through Dem and Rep admins.

I have tried discussion with you before. At best it is like talking to a wall. At worst it is arguing with a fool.

There are a few left wing posters it is fun and enlightening to debate.

There are more that appoach the discussion honestly.

You simply troll and show a very poor understanding of American politics.
If you’re to busy to read the link, why did you bother to respond?

You still haven’t read it, and you still comment on it, assuming that you know what is in the article.

And then you accuse me of trolling and having a poor understanding of US politics? That’s pretty rich.

WTF are you talking about? He was not lecturing anyone, he was offering his insight.

Troll.

I don’t know why you seem to have a bone to pick. I was asking Meddyg Stig a question. Your response served no purpose and made no sense, unless you can answer my question (What is the difference between a Bobby and a Constable) your posts don’t help.

I think Wreckless has been at the ale.

Anyway, Bobby is a sort of friendly slang term for a Policeman, inferring local copper than city cop or drug squad guy etc. Constable means just the same as Private does in the army I would say.

Cop’s here have been armed for ages, just with all this ‘Terrorism’ (they do seem to be shooting lots of innocent people recently though) more are armed.

Interestingly the Police who were involved in the shooting of the Brazillian man who was thought to have been connected with the bombings in London were part of a so-called ‘Special unit’ of Police but trained by SAS.

After the bundled shootings by Police, an SAS spokes-person said some of the ‘Special Unit’ or police should not have been allowed guns. Gives you great confidence. Example of cops suddenly thinking they are the SAS when they get an MP5.

In PA I think the constable is an elected position.

I don’t think they draw a salary, rather they get paid per warrant they serve and per fugitive they arrest.

Guns don?t kill people?Dads with pretty daughters do!
