Licorice Root Extract

I tried the Holy Basil Supreme recommendation for 2 days ( I think it was 2 days and 2 caps) a while back. If I remember correctly, Poliquin said that when starting out with it its common that you’ll feel drowsy, being that it resets your neurotransmitters. That drowsy effect hit me hard, I stopped it after than, and haven’t gone to the open the bottle back up ever since.

Has this happened to you as well?
Do you know how to possibly counteract that effect?

Maybe your high dosage of carnitine does the trick, I really don’t want to trial and error it,I hate wasting a minute of the day, and when I took the basil supreme, most of the day if not the entire day I was so fucking lethargic!

Yes I hear about this often. The trick is to start with 1 (yes ONE) cap the first day at breakfast. If no issues with that, move to 1 cap at breakfast and 1 at lunch. Again judge how you feel. If you’re ok with that move to 2 at breakfast and 1 at lunch. Then if you’re fine with that, 2 and 2.

People have varying degrees of adrenal fatigue, so it’s important to find what dosage works best for you.

Carnitine helps raise dopamine in the morning so it’s a good option as well.

Thanks for the advice,

I tried 1 cap w/breakfast, gave me that drowsy affect again. But its my off day and what I feel to be is an essential off day, being the rate consistency, volume and intensity I’ve been working out. I took a 30min-1hr nap following that. But even afterward, I didnt feel as refreshed as I’ve been on previous off days. Maybe I just dont react well to this supplement, or Im being quite stubborn with the temporary side effects?

On a related note, I recently saw a former T-Nation poster (who was quite popular/respected) mentioning on another big forum site that carnitine has poor oral bio availability, its much more effective to buy the liquid and inject it.
Have you heard of this supposedly superior alternative before?
