Leg Day is for you Ambulating Fools

Will the cancellation effect you any? Or will you still get to compete?

Last I heard we will still compete, trade show is cancelled and spectators won’t be allowed in. At least parking won’t be so bad this time.

Well… that didn’t go well

First event was the arm over arm pull. I think it was 190 kilos for 60’ on a sled.

There wasn’t any way to anchor a harness so that idea was scrapped immediately.

They had it set up where we pushed on a plate with our feet to brace ourselves. I can’t brace myself with my legs so I used a strap across my stomach and ended up leaning way over it so the pull was more like doing a bunch of rope pull ups

I was in the last group to go. It started out good, but about 3/4’s of the way through my lats and biceps were on fire and the last 10 feet was very difficult. I made it to within a foot of the finish line and i could not get the sled to move. I pulled on the rope for the full 60 sec time limit and was about 8" short of finishing. Came in 9th out of 9. Very angry at myself that I could not finish.

Second event was the log press for reps. 8" Log, 100 kilos, 52 1/2 degree incline.

I lost the last event so I went first. I was talking to someone while Magnus was calling me up so I was a little late. Situated my self and two spotters handed it off onto my chest. Managed 7 good reps, 8th was a little slow, and the the 9th right arm locked it out after what felt like 30 seconds of pressing and my left arm couldn’t finish. 8 Good reps, 2 more than in training and good enough for a tie for 5th. First had 17. Figured that wasn’t to terrible for 190# guy with no leg drive and no arch.

Seated Deadlift was next. 661# for reps, no thanks. I didn’t even set up for it. Scratched 0 points.

Finished in 9th out of 9, I knew it wasn’t going to go well after I saw that I wouldn’t be able to use a harness for the pull, but I was still kinda depressed about coming in dead last, Oh well, on to the next one.

I was happy with my performance on the Log press, that 9th rep would have been nice, but 2 over my Rep PR is a decent consolation. I was able to see a bunch of my friends from all over America and the UK, and for the first time at the Arnold I could get around and see the events I wanted to without have to traverse through an ocean of people. I did enjoy myself despite losing.

Next contest is America’s on May 2nd back in Ohio, I think it will be live streamed as well and I will post a link before hand.

There’s another contest in Colorado in June, Iceland in July, (I might have those to mixed up), and World’s, if I qualify, is in August in Germany. Going to go to the Crown Mountain in Colorado for sure.

The events in May are much better for me. Time to start training.

Here is the Live stream. I will post my two videos a little later today.

Mom and I watched the live stream and were cheering you on! Took me a bit to figure out which one you were, but we got it. We both agreed you got hosed on the sled pull. You were almost out on the floor. We didn’t think it was very fair due to bracing issues. Mom doesn’t know shit about lifting but she even picked up on it.

You were up against some pretty fierce competition on the log press.

You gave it hell though! Train hard and get it next time.

Hat is off to you my friend!

@timber, @ChickenLittle Thanks guys I really appreciate the support.

I passed out early and forgot to post my videos yesterday, but will today after I get off work.

My back has never been this sore before. I ripped three of my fingernails up on the pull and didn’t realize until someone said something about my hand bleeding. (I have a bunch of scar tissue on my left hand from when I was lit on fire so it happens pretty often)

I’m going to take this week easy and hit it hard starting on Sunday.

I was talking to some of the Highland games guys and they really want me to give that a shot, as I have orangutan arms and that should translate well to throwing, plus it looks like fun, probably going to have to buy a kilt here pretty soon.

March 10th
Rower 20 minutes
I was very slow and could not keep my pace up but it helped my back loosen up.

Uhm… you can’t just drop that and not expect me not to ask… how did you get lit of fire?

The highland games always look fun!
Too bad Harry ain’t on here anymore, he could help you out.

Hopefully next time the events may be a little more wheelhouse.

That’s an awful lot of negatives in that sentence.

I was working on a jeep pouring gas in the carburetor trying to get it to pull gas through the lines, it back fired, the can of gas in my hand lit up and I threw it, and the gas went all over me.

Stop drop and roll is much more difficult when you are in a wheelchair.

Tried patting it out then tried to smother it with my arms then I fell forward out of my chair and tried smothering it that way, finally manged to rip what was left of my shirt off. My brother and dad were out there and the first thing I said afterwards was ā€œAt least I’ll have some new scars.ā€ My brother and dad did not laugh, like, at all not even a smirk. Just looks of abject horror.

My brother was out with me when I was crushed and broke my back when he was 12, he was 17 at this time, both times he thought I died, he’s probably going to need some therapy at some point.

I managed to get back in my chair and rolled myself about 1/2 way to my house before the pain set in. I thought breaking my back hurt, but I was very wrong. I also thought being burned hurt, but getting debrided while sitting in your living room twice a day for two weeks, top’s the list of all time most painful experience… thus far anyways. It did reset my pain tolerance to 11 however. I can now pull my finger nails off of the bed and not notice for some time, so it has its ā€œbenefitsā€ I suppose.

I’ve been stabbed, crushed twice, and lit on fire, just need the gunshot wound and I will have the full set of scars for my completionest achievement.

Yeah, sometimes my thumbs type shit on their own. I have no control between that and the auto correct which is turned off but still insists on changing words.

Damn man! You need the whole rabbit! Not just a foot.

Never saw how a rabbits foot could be lucky, it really didn’t work out for the rabbit.

March 11
Deload… or I guess reload… Mostly goofing around

Bench Press Superset with Rope Pull downs

BP - 185 X 10 (83.5kg)
PD - 100 X 20 (45kg)
2 minutes rest

BP - 225 X 10 (102kg)
PD - 100 X 20
2 minutes rest

BP - 275 X 8 (124.5kg)
PD - 140 X 10 (63.5kg)

As promised my two events. I didn’t realize I was winning the sled pull, up to the halfway mark until I watched the video. Now I’m a little more disappointed in myself for not finishing.

Yeah, I read a bunch of the Stoics while I was in the hospital after I broke my back.

A lot of that has rubbed off on how I see the world. Now I’m just here for the ride, I’m going to enjoy myself and help out the people I can. No sense in getting to worked up about anything. Though I do slip from time to time.

Narrow Grip Pull downs

150 X 12 (68kg)
170 X 10 (77kg)
200 X 8 (90.5kg)

Football Bar Rows
205 X 14 - 90 sec rest (93kg)

205 X 8

Preacher Curl
120 X 8 - 45 sec rest (54 kg)
120 X 3 - 45 sec rest
120 X 3

That little bit of extra biceps work doing pull downs instead of pull overs really messed with my curls.

March 17

Rower 20 minutes
1 mile stroll

Looking like America’s Strongest is going to be postponed because of the coronavirus. And World’s has moved from Germany to Iceland and been combined with Iceland’s Strongest, so I might go, just to go back to Iceland again. It is my favorite place I’ve ever been too.

Push 2
Trying something a little differnt for the next 6 weeks.

Bench Press
225 X 5 (102kg)
265 X 5 (120 kg)
300 X 5 (136kg) +1+1+1+1+1 30 - 45 sec between clusters.
Program called for 295 but 300 sounded cooler

Shoulders are getting beat up doing close grip and dumbbell presses, so I changed them both.

Close Grip Pin Press ~ 4 " off of Chest, Reset on each rep. Hoping this will take a little strain off of my shoulders and help me with my lock out.

Never done these before so I started light or thought I did.
225 X 6 (102kg)
245 X 6 (111 kg)
275 X 3 (124.5 kg)
Was going to work to a top set of 6, thought I would get a few more rounds. Probably start a little lighter next week.

Delt Triad
Wanted something that wouldn’t be taxing and would get a bunch of blood up into my shoulders

Tried it with a 30# (13.5 kg)dumbbell and realized after the first round that that was a little too heavy.
I din’t feel like making up two 25# dumbbells so I did it with the two 15’s (6.5 kg)I had laying there.

Lateral Raise 1 x 15 Super set with
Front Raise 1 X 15 Super set with
Dumbbell Press - 1 X 15

Took a couple of minutes and did it two more times, with smaller dumbbells

The Dumbbell Presses were the hardest to get through which damaged the ego a little.

Thib’s six week to superhero has Top Half overloads off the pins. I had never done them and they seem to have helped in certain areas.
