Shoulder is definitely feeling better. Only time it bothers me is when I put my hands way behind myself, or when I stretch it out when reaching for something a little to far away.

I’m frustrated by the incline pressing. It is nearly the exact same as my overhead, maybe a 5-10 pound difference. I think it is probably becasue I don’t do them very often and I typically use a lower angle and wider grip. Have to try and figure it out in the next two weeks.

I have nearly zero chance of winning the Arnold as I’m going to scratch the Seated Deadlift so I’m not too worried about it, but if anyone has any tips on incline I’d be glad to listen.

I certainly can’t help, but maybe throw a video and see if anybody comes up with anything.

Not really sure about that whole negative thinking thing you got going on about the Arnold, but it can’t hurt to have a more positive attitude. I mean, you did make it to the Arnold right? How many people can say that?

Not negative thinking. Realistic. There’s only four events and I’m purposefully zeroing one of them. (Seated Deadlift)

I can still do well but many many stars would have to align for me to come out on top. I’m aiming for Top 5.

My T-12 vertebrae had to be removed when my back was broken. The seated ā€œdeadliftā€ is the top 2-4 inches of a seated good morning. (See video)

With the weights used everyone ends up rounding their back, and it will be especially evident at the Arnold. 300 kg (661#) for reps from this position is ridiculous.

My back physically can’t round as its being held together by 2 rods, and my T-10 & T-11 and L1 & L2 are fused. All the strain will go through the rods, and if one of them breaks or bends I’m going to re-injure my spinal cord and more than likely lose all the function I have regained below my level of injury. The risk reward ratio is skewed very hard to one side on that one.

I’ll upload a video this afternoon of my incline and see what anyone has to say.

This video is of Martin Tye at World’s this past year with his World Record Seated Deadlift. So everyone can see how the lift is performed. I was actually there in Canada to see it. (I lifted every bit of 135# only so I wouldn’t zero.

I give the lift a very hard time to anyone who will listen, but if it was easy to do what Martin has, we all would be pulling 1000+ pounds from that position. (Actual Lift @ 1:15)

Okay. Fair enough. I understand realistic all too well. We will still be hoping for Top 5 then.

What are the events you are going to compete in?

Incline 10" log - 100kg for reps supposedly @ 45 degrees,
Front hold - 20 kg For Time
Hand over hand pull - Maybe a sled, maybe an atlas stone inside a tire, Maybe a fat guy on a skateboard with no wheels, who knows.

Front hold is typically one of my best.

Overhead I am great at especially for my weight ~190 # with the next lightest usually being ~230. I took 2nd or 3rd at World’s by a few seconds (Dumbbell medley)
Incline not so much.

Hand over hand is a crap shoot. At the first Arnold we used a harness and I took 2nd. The last time I went they had a platform that all the amputees could use their leg to pull against. I put a sand bag across my legs, it fell off immediately, my legs went and crumpled up on me and I ended up in last. :frowning:. I’m bringing my own harness this time, so I will have to see if they let me use it.

Funny Story, Eight of us went out to eat afterwards. There were 9 legs total between all of us, I was the only one with both, and they don’t even work.

Well throw up a video and let’s take a look at it.
Do you have a 10" log to use in training?

I had my brother come over and watch me. He said it looked like I was worried about hitting the uprights on my rack and was pressing the log way out in front of me. I pulled the bench out farther and everything went better. Didn’t film the first few where I was pressing out in front of me. Also weighed the log instead of assuming it was 60# turned out it is 75.

I lifted 165, 205 and 225 so that people can see my form as fatigue sets in. We will have a down signal on at the Arnold, so I attempted to pause at the top on each rep of the 225 set.
They have had an up signal as well, but hopefully we won’t because that was terrible.

If anybody has ideas on how to get a few more reps or if I am doing something else wrong let me know.

Thanks

@T3hPwnisher has a badass OHP and competes in strongman.
@flipcollar is in DFW and is a strongman competitor too
@FlatsFarmer has some strongman trophies too
@punnyguy is very knowledgeable about strongman too

Maybe somebody can give you some help you out.

Just jumping in to say good luck! Incredible to see your work and that we have an Arnold competitor here

That’s some very strong lifting for sure!

I’m just a fan of the sport. Google Neversate. Brian Alsruhe owns that gym, and I know he coaches disabled athletes who have competed at the Arnold. Brian’s friend Uncle Nic is the coach of Miles Taylor (has cerebral palsy) who has deadlifted in an exhibition at the Arnold.

Contact Brian, see if you can send him your video for critique, there’s a pretty good chance he’d be helpful to you.

I wish Alpha was still on here. I would have tagged him too!

I’ve actually met Brian and one of the guys he trained for the Arnold. He’s an awesome guy. I’ll send an email his way.

I saw flipcollar at the Big Tex 2.0 last year as well for that matter. Though I didn’t know it was him until afterwards, when I saw a post of his about his coach.
