What is this lean protein everybody keeps talking about? up until now i have always believed there to be only one kind of protein: Protein.
So? Are there lean proteins, and other types of proteins which you should avoid now? Is it something like fats, where you try to avoid the trans fats and saturated fats?(something i missed?)
It just refers to the amount of fat that accompanies the protein source. If there is 2g of fat to 20g of protein, it is lean. 10g of fat to 20g of protein, not so lean.
And no one really advocates to ‘avoid’ fatty meats directly, just when you have lean meats, you can choose better fat sources. (Not to say animal protein is bad, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Fish Oil)
Also, saturated fats aren’t something to avoid necessarily.
Saturated fats are essential to creating testosterone and other cool things. Just like everything though, there are good saturated fats and bad saturated fats. Cheeses and animal fats (generally) contain the good fats, although grass-fed meat/cheese is generally much better than non.
Awesome, now i know! Thank you!
I feel like i should have known this, oh well.
Just to be a little more precise, things like Peanuts and Beans, while they contain protein, are accompanied by a bunch of carbs and fat. So in order to get 10-15 grams of protein, you are going to be eating 30-45 grams of the other Macros. Items like lean cuts of beef and chicken give you a huge dose of protein (25-30g) while giving a negligible amount of the other macros (almost no carbs, only 3-4g of Fat)

I see, that’s awesome!
I’ll know what to eat now, or at least i’ll have a better understanding of what to eat.
