What changed in a couple weeks?

Want to gain size but wanna be lean for summer - Off Topic - T NATION

The coach I had wanted me to get like super lean and said that id gain a lot of muscle this way. And to be honest I didn’t want to pay 300 bucks a month for his services. What he offered I felt I could do myself, I’m not prepping for a show just wanted to have guidance to gain more muscle because I thought I may have been making mistakes that were hindering my growth

@Glewin07 I can guess your short term goal is to look your best in the summer, but what is your, say, 5 year plan?

Sorry. My goal is hypertrophy, I have been I guess body recomping? For the past 3 months. I was 173 I’m not 166.5lb. Idk my coach wasn’t to clear on what he was doing, hence why I’m on here asking this. My goal is to put on mass.

So I don’t care to look big asl by summer although I do kinda wanna stay lean my 5 year goal is to do a bodybuilding show but I wanna put on as much mass as possible before I do that, im 18 I wanna take advantage of that and really put some mass on. I don’t wanna dirty bulk however at all, I’m thinking lean bulk? However I’m open to all suggestions

I do enjoy my face being lean and not bloated which is why I do like staying lean I overall look better. But I know it takes mass ie calories to built mass. Or at least that’s what I have been believing in

Whatever you do, IMO, don’t get any higher percent body fat than you are now. I would recommend get a little leaner to see some more major muscle group separation. BUT, monitor that you do not lose any strength. I would like to have you getting steadily stronger on all your lifts. That means eating sufficient protein.

Thank you! And my lifts have been all increasing so I’ll definitely keep what I’m doing until I stall. Thanks again friend

There is no such thing as a “Lean Bulk”. To gain size you need a surplus of calories. You should make sure to get 1-1.5 grams of protein per LBM minimum. Make sure you also get in good sources of fat. The amount of total calories ingested will determine how much body fat is or isn’t gained. It is easier to gain mass when adding a little extra body fat, but posing for 10 minutes in the mirror daily will help with conditioning and you will see how your body is reacting to the amount of calories.

Personally, if I were in your position I’d try to gain more mass. 10-15lbs of LBM is achievable over a 12 month period with the right diet, training, supplementation, and rest.
