I was disappointed Dorner didn’t use powerful explosives to kill everyone within a certain radius. Would’ve been a nice and effective way to go. Just a la Law Abiding Citizen.

“Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah MacKay was killed during that final gunfight and another deputy was wounded. MacKay, a detective who had been with the department 15 years, had a wife, 7-year-old daughter and 4-month-old son, sheriff’s officials said. He had spoken to AP just last weekend, saying he hoped Dorner could be taken into custody without any more violence.”
What a fucking miserable human being you are.
I guess he shouldn’t have been doing a job that required him to put his life on the line. Maybe accounting would have been a more appropriate career. Probably shouldn’t have had a family either. Getting married and having kids with a possibility he may destroy their lives by dying at work.
I can’t for the life of me remember where I read it recently, but I believe the rates of LEO dying on duty has been falling for awhile and is at one of its lowest points in recent history. (I wish I could remember where I got this, because I’m not 100% certain.)
Point being, you can’t expect someone not to live their lives outside of work because of work. Mainly because this is America and we don’t control people like that, and secondly it is outrageous to expect every LEO to forgo a family.
The wives & husbands know the risks too.
I feel really bad for the 7 year old, she will remember this. The 4 month old won’t know any different, but it doesn’t mean growing up without half your parents is super easy. Their poor mother has a lot to deal with right now. My heart goes out to his family.
This case is an exception since its so crazy its gonna get a huge publicity show. But to your first point yah there’s years that LEO isn’t in the top ten most deadly jobs in America. They are generally topped by farmers, fishermen, and lumberjacks for certain. Then you get a lot of construction jobs.
LEO are a lightning rod both ways though. People love and hate them and generally there are many LEO who feel they are somehow doing a more important job than being a farmer which isn’t the opinion of everyone.
You generally don’t get the vigil for the farmer who has a tractor roll over on him an leaves his family fatherless though.
