Lagging Lats

As with Xcelt, my traps are my strongpoint…for real…I need advice here too.

I have just moved to

4x5 Pullups, just over shoulder width
4x7-10 seated rows
4x7-10 bent over rows

I hope this will build better.
I’ll I did were the seated rows and pull downs before.

I just do tons of pullups, and that usually get’s em pretty good. Also you can try pulldown rows with a pronated grip. Keep the elbows in nice and close so that they rub your lats with them as you pull.[/quote]

I’ll just reiterate the close underhand grip keeping elbows in close. Also t-bar rows are a good change of pace.

I think do need to just do more reps for pullups. Thanks guys.

Try doing bent rows and pull-ups without gripping with the thumb. I have never worked my lats better, just try it and you will feel the contraction

I do inverted pushups, and chest supported bent over rows in adition to DL’s and pull ups.

Maybe instead of just doing more reps you should think about time under tension. I don’t know if those are bad words around here yet, but if you are going for striclty hypertrophy gains increased TUT might be the ticket.

I get my best lat gains from close grip chins with a v-handle attachment put over the bar:

(cross section)
/\ handle
o bar

…then again, my arms and traps dominate my physique.

I feel like my lats are kind of “high”. Do some people have an advantage for growing “wings” in that their lats start closer to their hip bones or something?

Row, row, row your way to hyoooge lats. The lats are a single head creature. You must create upper arm extension. Keeping the elbows close helps to isolate the lats. Getting away from the body will work the rear delts and teres minor. Supinated grips will work bicepts more as well. This might be part of your goal, but you asked specifically about lats. I prefer seated cable rows, and bent over dumbell rows.

As far as I know, the origin of the lat. dorsi is along the mid/low spine and ribs for everyone.

Yup. Buuut, the larger your lats get, high or not, the less you will notice it.
