Hello there, 36 years old male , got some lab work done and would like some input.
3 years ago I asked the doctor to check my testosterone during my physical check up. I was just curious. The results were 313 and when I asked him about it, he just shrugged.
In the last 3 years, I have educated myself on the testosterone topic, been eating more fat and avoiding anything that could damage my testosterone. Here is my last blood work done.
PSA: 0.7 ng/ml Range: 0.0 - 4.0
Testosterone serum 531 ng/dl Range: 264 - 916
SHBG: 50.8 nmol/ l Range: 16.5 - 55.9
Free testosterone: 8.51 Range: 4.4 - 18. 2
Estradiol : 21. 4 pg/ml Range: 7.6 - 42.6
Hemoglobin: 14.7 g/dl Range: 13.0 - 17.7
Even though I am impressed with the numbers, I have been having a lack of morning wood for a couple of years now. It takes me a long time to recover from workout now as well.
A clinic wanted to put me on trt to optimize my performance, I’m frankly a bit skeptical but they said my Free testosterone is low for someone my age.
Any thoughts?
Well 200+ point increase is proof of good work. Unfortunately your high SHBG is binding up a lot of your free test.
That’s about the extent of my SHBG knowledge. But if I recall correctly it means that TRT could help you but you will need 1 big dose a week.
SHBG scavenages sex hormones and when SHBG is high normal your free testosterone shrinks and the bioavailable testosterone is low, a man can have low testosterone even though he has plenty of total testosterone which is in a bound state unavailable to the body.
Most doctors are stupid in anything pertaining to male hormones, it isn’t covered in medical school or residency so you’ll often see a doctor shrug his shoulders and say you’re fine instead of telling you the truth, he/she doesn’t know jack shit about male hormones.
How often in our society to doctors admit to patients that they have no idea about male hormones? To save face they tell your you’re fine when you’re not. You simply cannot trust a doctors word these days!
I don’t see any thyroid labs, low thyroid function can have the same side effects as low testosterone. Most doctors get thyroid wrong and most are outdated and don’t stay ahead in recent studies and continue to practice medicine the way it was taught 20 years ago.
I serious doubt that’s the correct E2 labs, probably ELISA method designed for females. You need the LC/MS/MS sensitive labs. If it is the wrong E2 labs, estrogen is likely lower which is dangerous.
Thanks for the input.
These are all the lab results I have from the trt clinic i went to.
