So is anyone else interested in this movie? Im not a big fan of animated movies and I dont really like Black that much but something about this movie has caught my attention. I got some free movie tickets so I think Ill use them for this.
I won’t because I’m really tired of nearly every animated flick at some point showing a character in a karate stance/move. Seeing an entire flick based on this has me snoring already.
The last animated flick I really enjoyed was The Incredibles.
I’m a fan of animated flicks, but for some reason I’m not all that excited about this one. If I have to babysit my nephews this weekend, then I’ll probably take them, as they’ve both said they want to see it.
If that doesn’t happen, then I’ll still rent it once it comes out on DVD.
I thought it was pretty good, and the opening scene was actually very good. I saw another preview for Wall-E, which should be way better than this movie.
I took my 4 year old daughter to the drive-in to see this movie. She loved it. I thought it was a good kids movie. I have a feeling it will be in my dvd player real soon.
I know I’m a little biased, having worked in the animation industry for so long, but I really don’t expect much from Dreamworks Animation. While Pixar films all spend so much time developing characters who you come to actually care about (a must for any film maker), every single dreamworks picture seems to focus solely on the celebrity voices that are involved. Jack Black as a Jack Black (but as a Panda!), Jack Black as Jack Black (but as a shark)… It’s gimick movie making. Sure, the 3D animation is done well, but I always come away not really caring about any of the characters.
I know it’ll bring in the kids with their parents, but I guess the small remnants of my artistic integrity that are left will always be rubbed the wrong way by this approach (sorry for bringing the thread down guys -lol)

You didn’t bring down the thread because that is an interesting point. While I may disagree a bit on Jack Black simply being Jack Black as a panda, I agree 100% that Dreamworks leans too much on the celebrity voices, and not necessarily talent that works well together.
It was pretty pointless to sign on Angelina Jolie, Seth Rogen, and Jackie Chan for whatever it cost (which I’m sure was ridiculous) for what, 5 total minutes of dialogue? I’m not saying they didn’t do a good job, but the quality of the movie wouldn’t have suffered at all if they weren’t in it.
