The Koch family made their first millions when their father worked for Joseph Stalin. Isn’t that nice? The brothers pulled themselves up by their own million-dollar bootstraps, the old fashioned way.
If corporations are people, are rock bands people too? Is my softball team a person? Is Occupy Wall Street a person? The Black Panther Party?
Also, I thought posts with ALL CAPS were moderated here. I’ll start using them too, if not.[/quote]
So children should be punished for the sins of their fathers. Are you so confident of your families blemish-less history? And to say Fred Koch “worked for Stalin” is disingenuous. When the oil consortium in the US prevented him from selling his oil refining process here, he took it to Russia. He left Russia when Stalin’s purges killed many of his friends.
And I’m sure you’re equally critical of all the blue team money too…
Oh wait, no you aren’t.

I can’t speak for Pit, but I sure the hell am. I would like to see the gluttony of corporate money from both sides of the aisle be removed as much as possible from the political process. I contend that it’s possible to “lobby” ones representative, without lining said representative’s pocket with cash.
I am personally against all big money in politics , we have already determined that money = speech . no money = no speech , little money = little speech and so on/
I how ever would like to see a comparison of red vs blue from big money . I am not talking about political donations for individual candidates , I am talking about all those , political organizations that pound the so called conservative values
with out going back and looking for it , Arizona has a Primary election coming up and there was an article in the AZ republic where a South Dakota Veterans group is putting big money in the race . Really what the fuck does a South Dakota Veterans group have to do with AZ politics ???

I think you revealed the reasoning behind their psychology. Their father made a deal with Stalin and it was reasonable given the U.S. weren’t entertaining their superior idea. At the time it was reasonable, Stalin wasn’t exactly a great dude even prior to ww2. But he wasn’t what we have come to know him as.
The problem with the brothers is they probably got used to the idea of defending their father for making a buck. I’m sure they got it their entire lives. But where their father was justified in his decision to deal with the Russian’s to a major degree, they aren’t justified in the actions they have taken part in.
There is no such thing as a climate or global warming debate amongst scientists. The only thing that’s happening is they are paying scientists to publish studies that support their ideas and intentionally lying to the public so they can exploit the environment to make money. There’s a difference in that they are, “willfully ignorant” about climate change, where their father was legitimately ignorant (we think) of Stalin’s intentions. I think the Koch Brothers father must have had some idea of what type of man Stalin was.
I think it explains quite a bit about how and why they influence the sphere of politics the way they do… They have the money to do pretty much what they want and be out of the spotlight and criticisms if they were somewhat sane. But their libertarian ideology is vile if you assume they are manipulating things the way they seem to be. It’s disgusting actually which is why these guys are so unpopular. Only need to look at their history in politics and money.
Oil money flowed to Calif. senators who blocked fracking moratorium
Senators who opposed the bill received 14 times as much in campaign contributions from the industry, on average $25,227, than those who supported the measure, who on average received $1,772 during the four years ending Dec. 31, 2012.
MapLight found that the Democrats who abstained from voting received, on average, 4.5 times as much campaign cash from the industry as Democrats who supported the bill.

I once shook his hand at his house. It was after his election bid, he was very…wore down. Though he did vote nay on the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act, which I called into his office to voice my opinion that it was a completely unfair bill, no matter if the tax is called Fair Share Tax.
