You’re not supposed to take the orange tips off the barrels.

I prefer an edged weapon unless my attacker has a gun. Knifes are silent, won’t jam, don’t need to be re-loaded, and are far easier to legally possess.

So the question is which would you prefer to defend yourself with? Gun, no question.
If someone engages you hand to hand and your holding a pistol, chances are better than good that they are still going to get shot.
Of course there are guys that can do martial arts tricks and take a gun away or knock it out of your hand, but I just can’t believe that would be effective any more than 10-15% of the time.
If someone clinches with you and your holding a gun it is still highly feesible that you can turn the gun their way even of the shot only grazes them or it’s at some less than lethal angle. The sound will make their ears ring, the muzzle flash might fuck with them, and lets not forget the ever classic pistol whipping they could recieve should you be so inclined. It’s easy and effective to club a guy with a hand gun or punch with the business end.
I have been attacked at knife point. I got pretty fucked up, I admit that. I took about 6 hits, but only two of them went deep.I got damn lucky. But the interesting thing is that knife to empty hand I still had a fighting chance. I still got some good licks in. I dealt some damage and I dealt it early and fast, and that probably saved my life.
But if the guy had been pointing a gun at me instead of a knife it’s extremely unlikely things would have turned out that way.

Traditional law enforcement training is the the average thug with a sticker can cut a trained police officer inside of 21 feet. I would still prefer a gun though, regardless of range. If I couldn’t have a gun, I would prefer a leavenworth nightstick.
Knife vs gun, I will take both if I can have mine.
My gun of choice is a S&W M&P .40 and knife of choice is a Kbar 7" UC.

right, but it’snot like you can really walk around with a 7" knife.
btw we have police that patrol ‘the strip’ where a lot of the bars and clubs are located by the university. i askesd them about the legality of carrying a knife and they said a knife with a blade no longer than 3.5 inches is legal.
of course it’ll vary from state to state.
