Roger Gracie is one of the most decorated grapplers in the world, but I still consider him a novice in MMA because he only has one fight under MMA rules.
Kimbo is always entertaining and it looks like he added some new skills to his repertoire. It looked to me like Merciless Ray Mercer was waiting for Kimbo to tire himself out before giving him a boxing lesson. That strategy would have been effective if he could have prevented that takedown.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. You got to give Kimbo credit for being the smarter of the two fighters. He knew he didn’t have a chance standing, so he worked on takedowns. I give him credit for that.
Mercer on the other hand seem to be taking advice from Pretty Boy Floyd. He looked like he was there to box and that’s it. I mean, you don’t see a lot of guys win via guillotine from the bottom…if your playing by MMA rules, you better train for it.
And did someone say that Kimbo was being trained by Bas? That’s pretty cool.
on topic: hopefully UFC gives him a chance to fight, surely it would draw some PPV buys even if he gets his ass kicked and never comes back. people like to see him fight and he is popular on the youtube with viewers who probably don’t watch much MMA in the first place. they would be fools not to capitalize on his internet popularity.

Yeah he should be on the next Ultimate Fighter.

Kimbo Slice Vs. Brock Lesnar…think about it.[/quote]
Brock would destroy him. He’s bigger, he’s a better athlete, and he has experience facing top-notch competitors in a combat sport (collegiate wrestling). He’d have Kimbo on the ground and mounted in nothing flat.
Kimbo has a chance to be a decent MMA fighter, but he is nowhere near ready to face a takedown machine like Lesnar.

I’d rather see both of them fight good (not the best) MMA fighters and let them see if they can develop their skills rather than continually stage celebrity bouts or freak shows.
Paul Buentello, for example, has called Kimbo out in the past. A fight like this would be interesting.
Kimbo looks like a great fighter.
Unfortunately even decent fighters look great against bad opponents. This fight was just an example of how even if your a world champion ex boxer if you don’t keep up with your kraft you will fall off.
One thing smart that I see with Kimbo though, is that he is moving up the ranks in an intelligent manner. Its possible 4 or 5 years from now he can be one of the best.
I think Kimbo is a MUCH better overall athlete than people give him credit for. He was one of the best football players in the state of Florida but declined scholarship offers to play at D1 schools. Wherever he applies himself athletically, I think he will do pretty well for himself.
Kimbo doesn’t choose his opponents, the promoters do.
