Kale? - Food Wizards Wanted

Having heard so much about the nutritional benefits of kale, I want to get some. Can anyone recommend any procedures or techniques for preparing it? Thanks in advance, all.

Damn, nobody eats kale?

Hey, Ike: I’ll point Ko in the direction of this thread when he gets home from work today.

And kale ain't something that I get a regular hankerin' for, you know?

I eat tons of Kale:

Mix it in with salad, tear it into small pieces, it is a little tough.

Throw it into soup.

Stir fry.

GOOD

My iguana eats tons of kale.

Oh, c’mon now. Put down that bleeding steak and have a’bite of this wonderful ruffage!

Chock full of antioxidants. Try steaming it for 10-15 minutes.

I put a bunch through my juicer. It’s quite tart, so make sure to juice with some carrots and apples too. I don’t like to eat kale as-is, or even steamed, it’s just not appealing to me. But I can drink it along with some other nice vegetables.

Steam or nuke it til tender. Saute it with a little olive oil, garlic, and red wine vinegar. A little bacon is a good thing.

Hey, my health food store training is coming in handy a lot  As for leafy greens, kale has the most nutritional value, but it’s quite bitter and most people don’t like the taste of it in salads or cooked - it’s worse than broccoli rabe in my opionion. But a lot of people like to juice it - you can get over a head into a 16 oz. cup, and with carrots or apples and ginger, it’s not too bad. Hope this helps.

I eat kale (either the regular or dinosaur) varieties three or four times a week. I steam mine for a few minutes to soften, then add a little tamari(soy sauce) pepper, and lemon juice. I do not like to juice it b/c you lose the high amount of fiber. I often sautee as well with olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper around p+f meal times and feel it goes nicely with all meats.

The wonder of blenders…add water and WHIR the damn crap into a pulp. Might want to try adding some sour cream or cottage cheese.

RenegadeDragon You must have a very happy, healthy mo’o (hawaiian for lizard).
