He’s a teenager in that pic. You didn’t think he was close to or in his 30’s?

Great genetics aside, it is very rare today to see someone tearing it up and winning high level trophies under the age of 30. The crew that came in with Phil Heath were the first in a long time…at least since Shawn Ray was hitting the scene for the first time…and none of that group has won the O or even the Arnold yet to my knowledge.

It takes a long time for guys with the greatest genetics to get that damn big (as big as he is now)…which makes you wonder why many of the more average people on this forum seem think they have the time to “slowly gain” the muscle mass they are after.

good point. It really puts things in perspective when you look at pics of these guys when they were your age, and they are already ridiculous. Discouraging and inspiring at the same time.

“It takes pros years to get big so it’s a slow process but average people don’t have years to get big slowly.” This is how I understood what you wrote here, I’m sure you meant something else.

I think Kai needs to pose between his dance - looks like he hasn’t improved that in the last ten years. He did win the Arnold so I guess the judges don’t mind. I feel like he should pause and pose every now and then though, maybe it’s because that’s what I’m used to seeing.

That would point to a reading comprehension problem on your part. I am not sure how anyone could confuse what I wrote.

I see how you took it that way but he’s basically saying you have to make the best gains when you’re young. You see how slow the process is when you start getting older.

Thanks, that makes sense. I agree with that.

BTW, I was just searching out of interest and I actually couldn’t find when he was born. I think he’s either 14 or 19 in that '91 pic but I’m not sure. 14 sounds more reasonable I think.

EDIT: Actually, I think that 1991 picture is from 1994 and he’s 17 there. (or 19, this is confusing)

I mean to look like that at 14 whoa. 91 was quite some time ago now almost 20 years.

More specifically my point was, if the BEST IN THE FUCKING WORLD take this long to build that much size…and that is going balls to the wall training hard and getting in 6 or more meals a day for years on end…if it takes them several years to get that big, why the fuck is the average guy on this board who cries about being a “hardgainer” acting like they can “slowly gain” their way to their goals?

No one gets big overnight if they started out much smaller. The size I am now took well over a decade to attain…and that is with making this a major priority in my life. If people who are nowhere close to that in terms of ability or development are acting like they can take their time (which seems to include every “I want to maintain 8% body fat while I gain” newbie whether they have the genes for that or not), why hasn’t it sunk in that this won’t work?

[quote]Professor X wrote:

It’s obvious.

You haven’t explained this enough times - get to work. ; )

I only browse T-Nation during meals now, because if I didn’t, I would have to go eat something every time I read one of X’s posts.

I don’t think he is 14 in that pic…could be wrong tho.

He looks 16-18 in that '91 pic to me, which would make him around 36-38 right now. Seems about right.

I agree. I remember seeing the first BSN ads with Brewer and saying to myself, “FUCK DIZ SHIT!” All you can do keep on pushing and never give up the dream.

yeah, I think that’s 1994 and he’s 19 there.
