That’s a heck of a water moccasin!
Does look like your strength has waned. Might not feel like good workouts, but they keep going at a consistent clip.

Training Sunday felt sssoo good. I was in a funk Thursday through Saturday and ended up staying up late Friday after cleaning up after the 8th grade dance at my daughters school. Saturday was spent working and carrying her around to recital rehearsals as well as hauling out to a birthday party. Grilled a pork tenderloin, some shrimp, corn and asparagus on the grill… That put me in a decent frame of mind for Sunday morning training.
I really felt weak Sunday and I know the last few years of strength gains are wasting away. This morning’s complexes consisted of SLDL, hang cleans, OHP, squat, lunge and bent row. wound it up on the treadmill. I’m going to redouble my diet, and training efforts to get some of ‘it’ all back.
JW’s morning thought: Vegetarian is an Indian word meaning “Bad Hunter”
Gains ain’t wastin away you just need to get your mojo back. Life’s been interrupting you lately. You’ll get back on track. Do what you can when you can. You may not be gettin stronger but you’re being a great Dad. Counts more.
Dateline Tuesday 3:52 am
Squat: 135x10, 205x8, 2x275x5
Decline bench press: 135x10, 205x8, 255x5, 275x3
OHP: 135x8 2x155x4, 165xmiss
Rack pull: 3x250x5
Felt good to get under the bar this morning. I have suspected I was leaving my squats a bit high. It was confirmed on video. I think I’m going to have to do some box work. Bench was pretty easy. I have opened my grip up a little bit. Its kinda “interesting” getting used to a wider grip. going to do some straight sets with OHP. I’m really weak there. Started back slow with the pulls. Hopefully they will progress with time.
JW’s morning thought: Every time I fly and am forced to remove my shoes, I’m grateful Richard Reid is not known as the Underwear Bomber.
Dateline: Thursday, 4:02 am
Squat: 135x10, 205x8, 2x285x5
DB Bench Press: 70x10, 85x8, 105x5, 105x4
OHP: 135x8, 155x5, 155x2
Rack pull: 2x250x5
Still leaving the squats high. I’m going to bring out the low box Saturday and see what I can work on. Started the DB presses from “below” bottom. 105 was just plain ass heavy. 155 is my weak ass OHP limit. May back the weight up and do more sets. I’m also thinking I may need to spring for a belt…
JW’s morning thought: Nouvelle Cuisine, roughly translated, means: I can’t believe I paid ninety-six dollars and I’m still hungry.
Everybody squats high sometimes. Still good looking work and DB Bench looked big.

I did too. Finally I got frustrated and let myself bottom out. With my foot placement, and keeping tension (not unloading at the bottom), I stop just below parallel. But I had to let myself over that curve, where you start to feel iffy. For me, at least, the added tension built up made it easy to get back above parallel. The sticking point was a few inches up.
Go for it! With the light weight 1st, of course.
Looking good, JW. Just keep it moving.
Gonna try it, Skip. I feel like I’m ‘cheating’ all the time squatting.
Dateline Friday: 4:07 am
Barbell Complex: 3 sets 5 reps each movement 90 lbs
Treadmill walk: 15 minutes
Just another conditioning day. Probably wont get the chance to lift tomorrow. The daughter has a recital at 11 am on Saturday and we will be rolling out at 8 am to get there on time. Its going to be exciting because she is singing an original song. Hope everyone has a nice weekend.
JW’s morning thought: There’s no half-singing in the shower, you’re either a rock star or an opera diva.

It’s not cheating. Your legs are still getting worked and you are working towards full depth.
It’s the ass-clowns who do 1/2 or 1/4 squats and claim they can “squat” that weight who are cheating…themselves. And, of course, pissing the rest of us off…lol.
Dateline Sunday: 5:30 am

Dateline Monday: 4:10 am

I didn’t get to train Saturday. Took the daughter to the beach for an 11 am voice recital. that took up the whole day after the recital, dinner with the parents and the ride home. Sunday was a normal recital time, so I was able to get in some morning 'assistance" training. Don’t know where the hammer incline idea came from. I honestly believe I was too lazy to use my DB hooks so I used the machine. Today’s complex was the usual complex stuff. SLDL, hang clean, OHP, squat, lunge, and bent row. 100 lbs made me damn near puke again on the 3rd set. Had to walk on the treadmill to relax.
JW’s morning thought: I?ve been on a diet for two weeks and all I?ve lost is two weeks.
That looks like a very sucky super set. Better you than me.
Joe, I really think I should call it a stupid set. No one smart would even do something so stupid.
Dateline: Tuesday, 3:51 am
Squat: 135x10 205x6, 285x4, 285x2
Decline bench press: 135x10, 205x8. 2x255x5
OHP: 2x135x6, 135x5
Rack Pull: 2x255x5
Went to the video tape and while i was lower on my warm up sets, my heavy set was high and… well… heavy. Need to dial the working sets back down a bit and really get anal about getting my legs parallel. Bench felt great, OHP’s are really heavy. I may start doing them sitting on the floor, to take the back sway out of them. Dropped 3 lbs this week. Its a wonder what you can do when you pay attention to your diet a little bit…
JW’s morning thought: Fun-sized Snickers? Who?s this fun for? Not me. I need six or seven of these babies in a row to start having fun.
So your workout log would look like:
3 stupid sets of SLDL, hang clean, OHP, squat, lunge, and bent row.
And eating a bag in one sitting of the ‘fun sized’ snickers is definitely fun.
a solid week of training
admiring your complexes
Dateline: Sunday, 4:05 am
Box Squat 135x10, 205x8, 275x5, 275x2
Bench Press: 135x10, 205x8, 255x5, 2x275x3
Hammer Incline: 80x10,105x8, 130x4
Z press: 4x90x6
JM in the Smith:3x185x8
It was good to get in the gym after the days where either I couldn’t go or didn’t have the drive to go. Box squats felt good, didn’t try to push them much. Looks like 275 is the start point for my squat program. the bench weights flew up. Probably could have done 4 sets of 275x3 pretty easy. Changing to the Z-press for OHP. Tend to cheat less. Attended the funeral of a Boyhood friends father Saturday. The collector of flags died on Flag Day. The lawyer son of a lawyer, ran our 7 county telephone system which has finally ended up a part of CenturyLink after being swallowed by 13 dozen other companies. He wrote this as his eulogy and I found the words particularly moving:
The man whose funeral you attended today
Tasted at least some sweetness in life - his sons;
Smelled at least some odor of death - his father’s;
Saw at least one angle sing - his wife;
and
Touched at least in death- his Lord
Rest in peace Mr B.
Whats a Z-press?

OHP sitting on the floor. Read about it here, 10 Unconventional Upper Body Exercises
I’m all about unconventional, just not very imaginative.
Dateline Monday: 4:05 am
Barbell complex: 3 sets 5 reps each 100 lbs
Treadmill walk 20 minutes
Complexes consist of SLDL, power clean, ohp, Squat, lunge and bent row. Once again it damn near killed me. After a trying week of personal issues and life I HAD to get back into the gym. I feel like crap and when I don’t train, bottom line…
Going to lift tomorrow and keep my nose in the gym. I think it’s the only thing that’s going to break my funk.
JW’s morning thought: Your basic guy is into a straight-ahead, bottom-line kind of thought process that does not work nearly as well with the infinitely subtle complexities of human relationships as it does with calculating how much gravel is needed to cover a given driveway.
