You add in heavy rackpulls or deads you’ll go up a shirt size in a month or two. Thats what happened to me a couple years ago when I started deadlifting.
What is a cheat grip? I use straps on certain things (heavy shrugs, heavy lat pulls and heavy seated rows). I want to concentrate on the main muscle on those, not whether or not my grip is going to fail.

I grab the db close to the weight and let it rest against my hand. I’ll try to take a picture tomorrow at the gym.

I think I get what you are saying. Hell, that isn’t cheating. That’s lifting smart!

That is exactly what Krock does and one the of the attributes of a “Krock” row.

Took the daughter to ballet and killed the time in the gym with the big boys training my gunz. Who knows why I do the things I do… I was really pleased with the triceps work, although there is no sign of Sister DOMS today. Guess I need to work harder
Dateline Tuesday 4:24 am
Back training
Nothing, nada, squat, zippo… drove 18 miles to the gym and realized I left my bag with the key in the wife’s car.
There wasn’t a soul to let me in so I rode back home. On the way home I stopped and visited with some contractor friends making a 900 yard concrete pour. they started at 3 am. After watching them, I sure hope I don’t have to ever engage my fall back skill, finishing concrete!!! BTW, I admit watching a concrete pour at 4:40 am is really strange…
Tomorrow will be a double chest day.
JWs morning thought: Why is there always a nerdy guy in action cartoons? THEN, the nerdy guy always ends up being the most important component of the team. He either supplies the hero with essential gadgets, or he hacks into the bad guyâ??s security system.
I worked construction when I was in school one summer pouring concrete and that was serious work.

Hey…at least you got a squat in there!
Forgetting the key was just your body telling you that you needed a break. It’s okay to take one every now and then.
Man, my grandad used to have a deal with a supplier that he would take all the excess concrete for free so that they would not have to find a place to dump the concrete in the trucks before it kicked, but his crew (meaning basically the family) would need to be on standby at all times to take the concrete at a moments notice for the projects he had sitting around waiting for concrete. “Concrete’s here!” meant you dropped what you were doing and started working. I still have nightmares about those words.
Dateline: Wednesday 4:24am
Chest training
Floor press: barx20, 135x12, 205x9,225x6, 245x6, 265x4 (cheap PR,I never tried to floor press this much)
Incline in the Smith: 3x185x8
OH triceps ext.: 140x12, 150x10, 160x8
This morning was quick and dirty. I plan to go back tonight during the daughters ballet class to bench all out. I really like the floor presses. I was getting a bit bored with the heavy DB’s. Probably still should do them. SSSOO that being said, I may work on my incline DB’s.
I guess I should nose around T-Nation more. These guys are 70 miles from me. East Carolina Barbell - Off Topic - Forums - T Nation . I think I’m going down to nose around and see whats happening there. I’d like to see if I can get some highland game instruction from these cats. Hell they had a little competition on the OBX this summer. Who’d a thunk?? I think they called it the low land games and everybody wore white gum fishing boots. They all threw wooden crab pots and casted 56 lb fishing weights for distance… Actually they had a real competition, kilts and all… I need to throw something!
In other interesting news, the wife’s step sister who played volleyball at Wisconsin and professionally in Europe went over to ECU and practiced with the team. I think she is angling for a GA position. Hope she gets it.
JW’s morning thought: Did a guy named Phil start philosophy?
There is nothing cheap about a 265/4 floor press! Nice work JW

You seem to be getting back into you rhythm. And it is showing. Nice work, Wilson.
That’s a sweet lookin gym and the ads priceless. Great lookin floor presses and the tri exts are heavy. As for the inclines, thinkin of gettin a shirt made just for the gym. “Yeah, I use the smith. Wesson, too. Any comments?”
Thanks OG and Skip. I’m really going to hit the floor work hard for a while.
Harry, I like the shirt idea. Get 2 and send me one.
Dateline: Saturday 4:30 am
Bench training
Squat warm up: 165x20

I was really happy with my bench Saturday. 245 went up easy as well as 275. The cable super sets really wiped me out. I am still a bit sore in my pecs. Its a pretty cool feeling. I left Saturday feeling so good I was planning to go in Sunday and see where my bench press max might be. WWWEEELLL… we went the Bruce Hornsby benefit concert for ALS. It was just him and his piano. After 2 hours with no intermission we were on our way home. Slept in, played with the neighbor’s Chessies and cut grass before the rain set in.
Dateline: Monday: 3:55 am
Complex day
Barbell complex 6 sets 5 reps each.
Treadmill interval 10 minutes
I am making a renewed effort in getting my weight under control. While I will never be a less than 10% body fat guy, my moobs are growing, my britches are tighter, and I need to reduce the size of my ‘muffin top’ as my daugther calls it. As I said before, I don’t want to be a pear shaped Harley rider. The complexes and the treadmill killed my ass today. I was sweating like a stuck pig until 9 am…
JW’s morning thought: He was a wise man that invented beer. - Plato
Yep. The bench is definitely heading back in the right direction. Those are some heavy tricep pushes and extensions.
Looking good, Wilson.
Looks like you have found some enthusiasm for training again. I look forward to what happens when your thoughts about throwing get realized.
Bench is looking great and attitude is looking a lt better.
Thanks Skip, Seems like something is moving forward, which is a good thing.
Carl, I’m going to have to find me some coaching. the only time I ever tried to throw was my sophomore year in high school. I think I could throw a 12 pound shot 20 feet and my hands are so small for a discus.
Harry, I’m trying. Life is still a train wrecking, but I’m trying.
Dateline Monday: 6:27 pm

Killing time while the daughter is in ballet. Once again I decided to work on the arms. I think next week I’m going to do something different. Maybe a quick total body workout or something.
Dateline Tuesday: 3:55 am
Back training:
Kroc rows: 3x105x12
OHP: 3x95x8 super set with lock outs: 3x95x14
Lat pull down 3x140x10 super set with face pull: 3x100x10
Treadmill interval 12 minutes
Trying to move down a somewhat different path. I should have worked my back last night instead of my arms. Oh well live and learn. tomorrow will be a 2 a day chest day. I’m excited!
JW’s morning thought: A coconut has to be a mammal; it has fur, a hard skeleton and it gives milk.
2 chest workouts in the same day? You must really thrive on pain.
Great work.
careful not to get too swole.
I just took another look at your new gym. the guy says they have highland games implements. I’ll bet there’s more than one person there that could get you started on throwing.
