And when the inequality gap widens, what happens?
I have absolutely no idea what point you are trying to make at this point.
Who should the outraged leftists be assassinating in the UK when someone doesn’t get the care they need from the NHS?
It would seem to me that they are completely fine with all of the bad outcomes from the predictable scarcity that has resulted. It’s the same reason why “water is a human right” folks would be perfectly fine with Nestle Waters not existing at all in 2001.
With no million square foot warehouse stocked full of ready-to-consume packaged water on the morning of September 11th, no truckloads of water would ever have gotten delivered to the disaster areas to aid in lifesaving efforts. It would have been a much worse situation, but at least the leftists wouldn’t have to be upset that someone runs a bottled water business that makes money.
If you are paying for the health insurance then you have the right to be compensated by the insurance company…not denied treatments by the insurance company that you are paying
Pnut and Fred had the right to live
“A rising tide lifts all boats.”
If someone pays for insurance then the company says deny because, why not? What’s the response? In this case, a bullet. The chickens eventually come home to roost. Capitalists are the ones who will ultimately end it. All it will take is a Robespierre to wheel out the guillotine. The question is, will it be fascism or communism we end up with.
No. It was made illegal by progressives, after capitalists made that choice preferable to most. There were, and still are, likely plenty of families for whom that decision made life harder(and let Big Daddy Gov step in to save them).
Much like how your weekend was supposedly brought to you by labor unions(what would Subsistence Existence Man think of the idea of two days a week on which he couldn’t work?), the idea that child labor was exploitative is silly.
I don’t think anyone is arguing that insurers shouldn’t have to pay legitimate claims. I’m certainly not.
Are they denying claims that shouldn’t be?
@Brant_Drake That’s not the same as arguing that it benefits people equally. It is also a broadly true statement. We’ve got 100 years of well-documented examples to examine and compare, closer to 300 years if you want to go back to the Enlightenment.
I think humanity will probably need another 100 years at least before we broadly agree to stop listening to people who say things like “healthcare is a human right”.
God forbid they go to school and have a chance to have some degree of agency. Child labor is slavery so saying that ending it might have caused harm begs the same question with regard to the enslaving of black people.
Well, I’m sick of banging my head against the wall while you repeat this phrase.
Please articulate who should and should not receive healthcare.
I don’t think he knows what rights are. Healthcare is a right in many places. It could be the same here if we want. If rights are God given, as the Founders claimed, then since Jesus healed the sick for free, maybe that’s a sign.
I think the ship sailed on any of those ideologies with 2024. Another four years of democrat border policy, killing the filibuster and some really aggressive policy implementations could have cemented us on a path towards leftism in general, probably a bit closer to national socialism and fascism than communism.
As it stands, capitalism is still holding steady for now.
Whoever the healthcare providers agree to provide it to.
I’m starting to think the same, but willing to give him a chance to make his case.
Well, there goes my hope. He dosen’t.
Why? I’m genuinely asking.
They could deny it to a gay man then, if they chose. Or a person of a different race or religion.
If it isn’t exploitive then neither is slavery.
I’m not surprised you two share an equally wild idea of what a right is and even what it can be.
They can today. My uncle is a MD who is presently in the process of denying healthcare to everyone, as he decided it was time for him to stop providing healthcare.
He spends most of his time pursuing selfish hobbies at this point, saving no lives while meticulously tying his flies and playing his banjo out in the woods.
You can declare it a right all you want, but you can’t force my uncle Joe to start practicing medicine again. Not without more “greater good” leftism, at least.
Parents permitted it because the earnings from it were needed.
I guess it can be framed as exploitative in the way anything parents demand of children can be(not saying that you’re doing this, obviously…just clarifying for those who love arguing).
Children(or, at least, their parents) weren’t paid?
Edit:
I think this is preferable to many Leftists at this time(while there aren’t many taking this route). See: Covid vaccine mandates, etc. I’m sure they would prefer that he have no savings or investments, though.
He’s likely going to leave a substantial inheritance to his children that they believe belongs to society, not his children.
Cool, uncle Joe retired. I’m not a fan of fly fishing or banjo music, but I’m not there to tell him what to do. He is not the one denying coverage.
I’m on the phone for 4 hours a day to get forms to print out and fax to an office that turned over a mistaken charge to BlueShield Illinois instead of BlueShield California, so now I’m supposed to pay collections.
It’s not about uncle Joe at all.
Medical debt is the number one cause of bankruptcy in the USA. How the fuck do we think a bankrupt sick society can continue to be successful?
That sounds like a real pain in the ass. It would be very nice if somehow those mistakes didn’t happen or that we could all simply walk into a doctor’s office and a doctor is present and ready to provide healthcare.
Like all policies, you have to ask “Compared to what?”.
We can compare it to the UK, where the NHS is strained to the breaking point but they share your belief that healthcare is a right.
According to this year-old CNN article, there were There were 1,474 (20%) more excess deaths last year than the five year average. In one week.
Who should outraged leftists be assassinating for those bad outcomes?
