anyone know the name of the song that plays when he’s getting suited up with the final version of the iron man suit?

If I remember right it was the theme from the Iron Man cartoon. I’ll look into it.

I know that when Tony calls Rhodey, Toney’s ringtone was the old '66 Iron Man theme.
Tony Stark makes you feel he’s a cool exec with a heart of steel
As Iron Man all jets ablaze
He fights and fights with repolsar rays
Amazing hero
It’s Iron Man

I am king fucking nerd I pwn you all in that category
You got that right…but you are in the right thread to get away with it.

I think that’s cool by the way.

Ever read Cable Deadpool? They had an issue where Deadpool was hired to go after the Hulk and he sang the old Hulk theme, I was reading it on the train I laughed my ass off and people got up and walked away, and I was left sad and alone with my comics

Cable and Deadpool, along with Age of the Apocolypse, were the two greatest series I have EVER read. Simply awesome!

The cartoon theme has also been played by the (not visible) big band when Tony left the casino and gave his prize statue away.

Here’s the cartoon theme:

I used to loop it while warming up. My woman can’t stand it, but she liked the movie.

Just saw it this afternoon.

My wife, who has no knowledge of IM, loved it.
I, who have been reading IM for 40 years, loved it.

I have NOT read through this thread, but I was sure there’d be a thread on this topic, so I came looking so I could blurt.

I loved that they touched on so many classic “points”:
Pepper–finely tuned characterization there
Happy–waiting to see what they do with him and Potts
Yinsen!
“Ten Rings”? We know what they were setting up for the next film!
Anyone see Cap’s shield in the background of Tony’s lab?
Stane
Rhodey looking at the prototype.
(even a nod to Black Sabbath)
Ultimate Nick Fury! Avengers Initiative!

Tony’s attitude was right out of Michelinie and Layton’s period (minus the out-of-control alcoholism); perfect for Downey and a very attractive character or this film.

ONLY “Awww, wish they hadn’t” moment was Jarvis as a computer. Maybe they decided he’d look to the uninitiated like a copy of Alfred; maybe it was also “cleaner writing” to have only one other person padding around the house and they decided that would be Pepper.

So…in 2010 we’ll see IM the Sequel. By then we’ll also have start dates for Thor and Captain America. Hulk’s here soon. All we need is the (easy-to-do-the-CGI) Ant Man (introducing Janet Van Dyne), and we’ve got the original Avengers.

MMM.

(I will now return control of the keyboard back to the staid TShaw.)

What a great movie. Not sure if it was better than Batman Begins, but a great movie nontheless.

I don’t think they are shooting for classic Avengers. Im guessing it will be more loosely based on Ultimates.

I didn’t catch the Cap shield thing. Hmm.

I am doubting that one. Cap hasn’t even been found yet if they are following the Ultimates story line. Cap isn’t given his new shield until S.H.I.E.L.D. digs him out of the ice.

…and Jarvis isn’t a computer. That doesn’t seem to have hindered the movie.

Why not have the round shield made of unbreakable alloy by Stark replace the original shield that CA used? That’s assuming they do CA as a frozen leftover from WWII.

There’s a glimpse of SOMEthing under Stark’s armpit in this scene. I wouldn’t be surprised to find they are planning the future movies already. And even if they follow a more Ultimates version, they can still change anything they like.

It looks like wires and gadgets. There is no mistaking the huge star on Caps shield. Plus, you can see the table through whatever that is. Cap’s shield isn’t transparent and Stark doesn’t gain that much access into politics to have his hands on it until he hooks up with SHIELD.

…and to me it looks, not transparent, but highly reflective and showing the image of something above/around it.

And they made it clear that Howard Stark was part of the US’s military efforts in WWII, so why not tie Cap’s shield to Stark Industries? They can and will alter the storyline to suit themselves, so saying his lack of access into politics means he isn’t connected to the shield is the way we might plot the story. Doesn’t mean it’s how the story will turn out.

May 6, 2011, is when they are slated to release “The First Avenger: Captain America”
July, 2011, they say they will release “The Avengers”

(I think it would be very cool to make “TFA:CA” a period piece in the 40s, ending with the explosion and freezing of Cap. Put in a teaser post-credits for “TA” and you’ll have 99% of the audience planning their July viewing right there.

Let’s agree to disagree, bump this thread in 3 years, and see what’s up. (Not that I don’t enjoy debating the "what if"s and "can’t be"s of a fictional reality.)

meh…i enjoyed the movie, but it was a little propaganda-ish, no? Blah blah blah, brown people with weapons are the source of the world’s problems, we’d better get BIGGER weapons…

Enjoyable film, but hardly an original plotline. Buncha fuckin’ sheep y’all are.
The movie makes the reverse point. Placing the blame on our American corporate self-righteousness. Or did you happen to somehow miss who the villain was and how those ‘brown people with weapons’ were mercilessly executed en masse in the tent camp rendezvous scene? The hostage scene?

As cool as Tony Stark was portrayed, I think that would be just a bit much at this stage…so I disagree…and yes, we can agree that I disagree.

Wow, this thread went nuts again. Political messages? WTF?

That movie was fantastic. Loads of laughs, well paced and brilliant casting. I wasn’t too sure how Downey would play, and was nearly not gonna see this movie, but I sure as hell was glad I did.

Anything that has AC/DC, Black Sabbath, and Suicidal Tendencies on the soundtrack is a winner for me.

I reckon this was easily as good as Batman Begins. Not better, but as good as.

I enjoyed it as well. Just was annoyed by the arrogance of the post I quoted.

Just to play a littel devil’s advocate here, Stark did create a sheild for Rogers after he quit being Captain America, and became simply The Captain(the USAgent costume). Then when Iron Man did the Armor Wars thing and attacked the Vault and destroyed the gaurdsmen Cap gave back the sheild and T’Challa created a fully Vibranium one for him.

Cap’s second sheild is a mixture of adamantium vibranium and element x, the Stark sheild was fully adamantuium and weighted exactly like the original, the T’Challa sheild was all vibranium and is still used by USAgent.
To read the full story check out Cap 339-342(?) and Iron Man 228.

And now you know… and knowing is half the battle

I really riled some feathers, eh?

I didn’t miss a thing - as an aside, please point out the ‘arrogance’ you found within my post. Other than being an admittedly tame troll job, that is. But let’s talk more about it, then, since it seems to have gotten you upset.

As if Arabs/Afghanis/BROWN PEOPLE haven’t been pigeonholed already, do we STILL need to portray an entire race as cave-dwelling, incompetant imbeciles who are inherently evil?

How much of this movie is spent with the Arabs running around, screaming in Arabic, torturing and thirsting for more weapons?

Yes, corrupted American villain comes in and slaughters everyone (while of course another American is required to come in and save the day, but that’s another subtopic) - I didn’t miss this, it’s just not what I was talking about.

The ‘9 Rings’ or whatever it was named was a multinational terrorist regime, right? Why is it that only Muslims and Arabs are portrayed, then? Honestly…lol.

Even the token ‘good guy’ arab who helps Stark out - why is he made to appear less Arabic…less brown…speaks proper English…his mannerisms are reflective of typical Americans…what’s the message here? That it’s ok to be Arabic as long as you’re acting so much like an American that we don’t really notice?

Hell, even the penultimate villain, when speaking to the head arab villain, points out that “their part of the world” has never been able to keep up technologically. They can’t even be good villains, lol.

Got to salute a history buff!

But to be fair to the Prof’s point: he was referring to the Ultimates storyline, not classic Marvel. Since Nick Fury shows up at the end of IM as a black man, it looks like the movies will base a lot of plot development on Ultimates.

Yeah but even if they are doing Ultimates didn’t Stark make the sheild for the super soldier project?

Hahaha, this is the real reason for that shield shape making a brief appearance- to keep people talking about the movie. Well played Favreau. Well played.
