I’m getting the itch to return to a commercial gym. We had a sweet VASA fitness center with $20/month memberships, but the evil local gym bought them out to expand their empire. Smart businessmen but they’re bad people. And now the memberships are close to $80/month.
I think I’ll return to the Y next summer. I went there to meet a lady about daycare today and the guy at the front desk remembered me. I haven’t been there in two years! The Y runs Child Development Centers at several of our high schools and we were able to get in for the upcoming school year. It’s a huge blessing for us. It’s $70 a week cheaper than our old place and it’s at the school we teach at. Their schedule mirrors our work schedule. Couldn’t ask for a better setup. The CDCs are for students first, then teachers, then the community. They will have two staff members and limit enrollment to six infants.
But I digress. Commercial gym is in my future. I’ve even considered Planet Fitness. I could always do squats, deads, and cleans at home and use their machine toys for everything else.
Doesn’t look like much on paper but it feels like a lot. Took me 44 minutes. I remembered 5/3/1 Advanced while doing the singles on squat. Might bring that back for leg day in the near future. I can’t keep working up to heavy singles forever.
@T3hPwnisher and @simo74, I decided to loosen up and go with the slightly fatter but much happier look. As much as I’d like to have a six pack and go everywhere shirtless, it’s unrealistic. Eating, drinking, and being merry killed the six pack, but traps and shoulders look better with the extra weight. I find that I like tank tops these days. It’s a good summer look.
Hopefully this new training approach adds some go to my show. I always thought personal appearance was important as a cop and it’s equally important as a PE teacher. I see out of shape teachers preach fitness and I about die inside. I received a note from a student at the end of the school year. It said “thanks for not being a fat PE teacher that tells us to do 5 push-ups but can’t do 1.” That’s one of the best compliments I could receive as a first year teacher.
Between being a Physical Education teacher and a father, I have lots of reasons to at least look the part. The tattoos are a part of that. I don’t think I’ll go as far as Will Smith in Bad Boys, but I might need to scare some boys in the future.
Well, we’re back at home and I’m due for a pull workout. However, I don’t feel like pulling anything. I’m sore from “vacation”. I guess I lied to myself when I said I was done doing stupid things like jumping on a wakeboard. I’m not any good, but I still try. I think there are multiple factors making this much harder than it should be. 1) I’m 235+ pounds. 2) The boat is more of a ski boat so the wake is smaller and the rope is attached lower. 3) My board is about 20 years old. I was looking at sites to help me select a new board and it turns out that some are better for speed and cutting and some are better for jumping (getting pop off the wake). If I had to guess, my board is the former because it was a rental board for beginners like me. It’s probably time for an upgrade. Unfortunately, I think we’re done with lake trips for the season. I have to report to work next week.
