@T3hPwnisher I know for a FACT I want to get into strongman this year. I’m eyeing my first competition being in the summer time. This leaves me with 6 months to get as strong as possible but also learn some movements. I know all the OH pressing, deadlifting, squatting, back work and conditioning will carry over well.
I don’t have access to strong man gym right now but probably could start using one in April or May. In terms of equipment do you think that the following would have good carry over for some of the typical events? I’m just trying to think of way to get in some “event work” while at a typical 24 hour fitness for the time being.
Swiss/Football bar OH press (in place of log press)
Trap bar farmers walk (in place of typical farmers handles)
Weights suspended using chains on a barbell (in place of a a yoke)
I would do neutral grip dumbbell presses in front of you for the log rather than the swiss bar. Help prep for the instability inherent in the implement. I don’t see the zercher carry helping out much. I don’t think you can move very quickly with one, so all it’ll do is train you to move slow, which is less than ideal. Sandbags are cheap and worth investing in. Otherwise, get a loading pin, slap a bunch of bumpers on it and clip them together and carry that.
The chain yoke is better than nothing, but not much like a yoke. If you get good with it, you’ll have a strong core.
My body is SO FUCKING SORE from yesterday’s session. Honestly feel like I got hit by a truck. I definitely over did it lol. It’s ok will just stretch and condition both today and tomorrow and then get back after it. Going to stick to my program and save these challenges for once a month lol.
Lol, man my wife is already telling me my legs look weird because my thighs/ass/hips are so thick but my calves look like twigs. Honestly if I wear shorts that cover my knee caps you wouldn’t even think I squat LOL.
I think I got to jump and sprint more for my calves to stand out somewhat.
Fun Fact - I lifted in dress pants, button up shirt, tie, and dress shoes today. When I got to the gym I realized I didn’t pack my gym clothes. It was too late and I had to commit. I think some kids were snapchatting to their friends video of my squatting 315 with a tie on lol. Oh well hopefully I don’t become a meme!
I was also super sweaty and stinky the whole day at work. Luckily only reason I had to dress up today is because I was in a meeting with execs all day. It was a day where I had to do minimal talking and interacting so thank god!
