That is a RIDICULOUS amount of protein!!! Why so much? That’s like what Brian shaw needs!

I eat like 120-150g a day! You better be drinking a shit ton of water and eating lots of greens. That sounds like a kidney stone waiting to happen!

Prob 6l a day?

Going off Wendler’s recommended diet for 531 bbb. It looked to be alot of protein.

I think it’s a bit like the old adage, “show me a man that says he doesn’t masturbate, and I’ll show you a liar.”
I think unless you have a specific performance goal that precludes it, we all want to be bigger and stronger.

You are correct, but I’ve been lifting weights for a long time. My body teaches me lessons. I have to learn from them. So far, the big lessons have been that focusing on moving big weights on the arbitrary “standard” lifts hurts me. I’m not built for it.

I also don’t like increasing my body fat, so I have a limit when it comes to just eating and lifting. I gained 30 pounds last year in an attempt to add muscle and get stronger. I got stronger, and I got injured. I have since cut all the fat only to find I achieved nothing.

I’m not giving up on my pursuits, but I’m changing my methods.

On the performance side of things, I like to be able to step on the basketball court and dunk any day of the year. I’m a shade over 6’4" so that’s not an incredible feat, but it seems to get harder every year (at least for other people). I’ll be 35 this year and I should have no problem standing flat footed under the goal and dunking with two hands.

When that certain hottie starts doing abductions in front of you, its pretty entertaining

I don’t think they have to be mutually exclusive, and I can definitely say, for me at this point in my life, the horse comes before the cart.

What I mean is: I don’t really need to be that fit to live my daily life or do my job. I once did, and I almost think that makes me care even less now.

I would like to be awesome, but it’s easy to put your “likes” behind your “have-to’s”.

So, I do need to go to the gym to be bigger and stronger; however, I’m not going to go to the gym consistently enough because that goal isn’t critical enough to compete with everything else.

Therefore, being somewhat entertained does have to come first. If I’m entertained, I’ll go. If I go, I’ll get bigger and stronger (or at least have a better chance).

Perhaps I’m weak-willed, but that’s where I’m at these days.

I am really starting to enjoy this forum, by the way! Everyone is pretty great.

We’re just a bunch of regular dudes (and gals) with regular lives. The varying backgrounds and life status (grown kids, young kids, babies, no kids, etc) makes it really fun. I can see what others are doing in a similar situation and if they’re killing it, then it motivates me. If they’re struggling, then I feel good about myself because I’m doing a pretty good job by comparison . It’s a win-win LOL!

I’m lucky enough to have a wife who understands. I need my gym time. It’s (sadly) what makes me, me. Without it, my mental state heads south. On the flip side, she needs her running time. And she needs to have a purpose to run. If she doesn’t sign up for a race then she doesn’t enjoy running and won’t do it. But she’ll sign up for a 50K and never miss a day of training over 16 weeks. Her runs take hours, and sometimes she has them knocked out before I go to work at 7am. It’s what makes her, her.

We understand that our training is something we both need, so we encourage each other to do it. I have to take care of myself before I can take care of anyone else. That applies to both mental and physical health.

I want to be bigger and stronger, and in itself the process of trying to achieve this will benefit me. But, if that is a goal I really want to achieve, then I will do every thing in my power, family, job, responsibilities, allowing to achieve it.
I don’t need to be any bigger and stronger than I am now, I’m 40 years old and have managed to get to this point in life without above average strength or muscularity.
That said, I think focusing my physical and mental expendable energy on this goal makes me a better person than my default, which is a lazy gluttonous heavy drinker.

Hmmmm… I wonder what could have caused that?

God wants a relationship with all of us. He even drops hints.

Is both not an option?

Probably, just a Wendler quote I read.

…that is also heavier than most people’s PR’s.

That explains it. I never agreed with him on about 90% of his mindset.

Oddly, I find i agree with him on many things. Although I don’t find that whole “north of vag” thing as motivational and insightful as he obviously thinks it is. Not for me, anyway.

He spouts off a lot of nonsense like “You’re not strong until you squat 700 lbs”. The North of Vag program is another example. He also has published an article with “tests” or “standards” that one must meet to be considered a man. I don’t like that crap.

Because you’re not a man :wink::wink:

I think we probably agree a lot more than I thought then. That’s definitely the stuff that doesn’t motivate me like it does some.
