Frank’s birthday is on Friday and I got him an SSB. It’s been in my office at work for over a month functioning as a coat rack. It was pretty funny when it was delivered. The Canada Post guy was pissed.

For dinner tonight Frank made us sausages and I had way too much HP sauce with them. When I did back extensions, the acid reflux was horrible. Still the sausages were delicious and I’d do it again every time.

You are part of the coolest couple ever…ssb bars for gifts. And the fact that you kept it hidden for a month and not used it yourself means LOVE!

Squats felt heavy and hard. Next week is 215 I I’ll likely put my belt on. We’ll see how it goes. Friday we are setting up for the Super Show at the Toronto Convention Centre so training will be in the warm up room as the TCC after set up. We likely won’t have a ton of gas in the tank as we’re humping all the plates and gear in after we drive it from Hamilton.

I also got him a parmesan cheese grater. Cheesy gift I know  He kept mentioning we should get one because we eat a lot of parmesan so he got one for his birthday. It was kind of difficult to find.

As predicted, the last set of deadlifts were very hard and slow. Next week may end up being broken down into doubles or triples or something.

We are down to the short strokes for the super show. Today we found out what we are getting from Titan for prizes. Both Athletic Alliance and Titan are coming up with lots of goods and awards. Our best lifters will go away with tons of booty. Also, like last year, we have really nice etched glass trophies for best lifters. Because this is our flagship, promotional meet, I like it to be memorable. So far, my biggest stroke of genius was the lifter on the shirt. He will also be on the piece on the back of our medals.

Sounds like its going to be a great show.

The ssb squats felt ridiculously difficult for such a light weight. Like front squats, I find the require a lot of mental focus and concentration not to pitch forward.

Between sets, we carried stuff out of the basement for the meet. Our living room is now covered top to bottom in plates, boxes, banners and carpets.

After we trained, I took all the carpets onto the back deck and vacuumed them. One of the small ones from the meet last year used in the staging area was still covered in chalk. I have a dyson and it is kick ass but it couldn’t get all the chalk out of the carpet.

We also have a para bench as we have one disabled lifter and it takes up a ton of room. As an additional note, nationally and provincially our association has taken over the administration of para powerlifting. I will likely be attending a paralympic referee work shop at the end of August as they are looking for referees for the para pan am games in 2015. I doubt I’ll be reffing there but as Provincial president and a referee, I should be at the clinic.

Finally, we have the meet scales and I weighed myself this morning. I’m sitting at 57.2kg which is good tracking for the meet I’m actually lifting at June 21.

This session was done in the warm up room at the super show after we finished setting up. The squat was supposed to be a set of 5 at 215 and the bench a double at 120. Not surprisingly, it didn’t happen. My lower back was smoked by the middle of the day from humping plates and putting the show together. We got to the convention centre at 1030 and left at 630.

We were up at 5 Saturday morning to get to the show by 7 since weigh ins were at 8 and we had to register lifters and finish some set up.

The day went really well. We had 20 benchers and two flights of three lift. Like last year we were situated next to the weight lifters, two of whom helped me bolt my platform together. Unlike previous years however, on the other side of us was Ronnie Coleman  That was pretty kick ass.

We had crazy crowds all day between us, the weight and Mr. Coleman. There was a ton of other stuff like strongman, boxing, body building, fitness etc.

Sunday was another early start with two more flights of heavy weight men. The show closed at 4 pm and between tear down and driving all over to drop stuff off, we got home at 1130 last night. We ended up unloading the competition set in the dark in St. Catharines with someone shining two flash lights in the storage area.

I have my own meet coming up on June 21. Now that the Super Show is put to bed, I can focus on my stuff. I was super fat after the weekend eating souvlaki, barbecue, pizza, etc.

Training actually went surprisingly well considering how purely exhausted I was.

As great as the show went, when it’s over, I never want to do it again.

I forgot about this one. Today I was contacted on facebook by Maryana Naumova about competing in our federation when she visits Canada. We’re fb friends now. To date, that’s the coolest thing that’s come out of being OPA President. She must have gotten my name off our national site contact list.

Squats weren’t bad but 220 was supposed to be for five and number four was stupid difficult. It’s just over 2 weeks till my meet so next week is more focused on singles after Monday.

Thanks for the good wishes. We’ll see how it goes. I still feel super worn out from last weekend. Next week I have a meeting in Toronto with someone from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport about next steps in our association becoming a Provincial Sports Organization and opening us up for funding and grants. Next Saturday I’m hosting an interim executive meeting. I’m a bit tired and sometimes it feels a bit endless.

I decided to switch things up a bit and deadlift first. I needed an idea of where my deadlift is and if I did it after all the squatting I don’t think it would be super accurate. My standard opener is 130 (286) and second is 135 (297) so that looks good.

Today I had a field trip to Toronto to meet with people from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport. I wouldn’t call it a waste of time since it was informative but it left me a bit deflated. However, they were able to point me in the direction for funding and grants outside of their organization.

The fun part was hooking up with friends of over 20 years for lunch and margaritas. Some friends you can go without seeing for years and then pick up right where you left off the last time you talked.

Low Bar Squat

45 Lb x 10 reps
135 Lb x 5 reps
185 Lb x 2 reps
205 Lb x 1 reps
220 Lb x 1 reps
237.5 Lb x 1 reps

Notes: I think I’ll open at 220 and 237.5 is my second (100 and 107.5) They were both good. 220 was snappy and easy and a good opener.

Bench Press (Paused)

45 Lb x 10 reps
95 Lb x 3 reps
110 Lb x 1 reps
122.5 Lb x 1 reps

Notes: Again first and second(ish) for the meet with signals (50 & 55)

Bench Press (Touch & Go)

117.5 Lb x 3 reps

Notes: These were the actual programmed reps for the day.

Power Clean

65 Lb x 3 reps
95 Lb x 1 reps
105 Lb x 5x3 reps

Notes: These were a bit heavy by the end

Overall I was very happy with todays session. I nailed my first and second without any hitches. Mentally, that’s a nice feeling going into a meet.

and called it a day.

Billy Squier came on the radio during training and cardio was dancing around to ‘Stroke Me’ while Frank benched.

Things are looking good for the meet except that Frank will be reffing. I’ve never wanted us to ref each other mostly because I know I could hold a grudge for Canada and we know what to look for with each other.

I coloured my roots and picked a darker than normal colour so my hair is now ‘ombre’, fashionable by accident I guess.
