Should the UFC scrap the current 10-point must system and go back to a system in where the judges picked who they thought won the fight?
To me, that seems like a better way to do it than the 10-point must system, which leaves too many questions (10-10 frowned upon, just what does make for a 10-8 round?) and interpretations.
Why not just do it this way, for example with the Rampage-Griffin fight. Keep notes on the rounds, write down who won and then at the end, call your winner?
Round 1: Jackson (landed the biggest and most damaging blow)
Round 2: Griffin (big leg kick and dominated the entire 5 minutes)
Round 3: Griffin (a toss-up, but Griffin maybe landed more shots)
Round 4: Jackson (close, but Jackson did more damage)
Round 5: Griffin (again, real close, but Griffin moved forward and was more aggressive)
Fight’s over. I give the fight to Griffin as he was the more aggressive fighter and had the most dominating round out of the 5 that took place.
While good in theory, every system regarding judgment will have moments when it is questioned. I think they need to give clearer guidelines for how a fight is scored as well as providing more consistency. Sometimes take downs are all that matters, sometimes scoring punches are all that matters. I hate decisions.

Consistency is key. Perhaps to piggyback off that, so is proper training for the judges. They need to know and understand what the heck they are judging.
Makes you wonder why they’re making new weight classes when nobody was questioning that in the first place.
On topic though, I agree that PRIDE had a good thing. It makes sense that the figher finshing the strongest should have the better chance of winning the fight.
I liked PRIDE’s judging, though totally not without it’s own WTF moments(coincidentally enough, Rampage’s decision over Ninja Rua comes to mind!).
The biggest beef I have with the current judging system is that it caters to the lay and pray. Just because you have a guy on his back, doesn’t necessarily mean you are winning/damaging your opponent. Hell, a lot of guys want you in their guard so they can slap a triangle on you. If you are in Fedor’s guard you are probably moments away from losing via armbar.
I would think the NSAC/CSAC/NJSAC would have to be involved in the change process, to keep it legal. UFC wouldn’t be able to just change and tell the Commission to deal with it.
