Jones vs. Calzaghe

Roy should have retired 5 years ago. Does he need the money or does he just not know how to move on with life?

I think that’s just a boxer’s mentality. They retire, get the urge to fight again, then un-retire and train for upcoming fights, sometimes retiring/un-retiring several times. Heck, George Foreman un-retired to fight in his late 40s, and toyed with the idea of un-retiring a third time to fight at age 55, but he didn’t.

As for the fight, RJJR definitely is not his old self. His reflexes were still good, but by around Round 5, you could tell he was slowing down considerably. That and his busted open left eye wasn’t helping things either. After he knocked down Calzaghe in Round 1, I thought RJJR was going to win by Round 3, but Calzaghe proved otherwise. Just hated to see my boy go down like that, it was painful.

Calzaghe was the better fighter that day, and he deserved to win. Congrats to him on staying undefeated.

God damn. Now who’s gonna beat Calzaghe?

Guess this one’s up to me…

What’s up with Joe and going down in the 1st?

I have computer issues, so it’s been a while since I’ve posted.

But let me say this- Roy Jones is completely shot. He barely threw a punch after the second round, and looked like an old man. In his prime, as I have said, it’s not even close. He clocked Joe with a couple of uppercuts and hooks, even looking like shit.

Joe is, and always will be, over rated. Did he do a good bit of ring generalship by taunting Jones and playing his game? Yes. Well done.

But his footwork is terrible. He comes straight in, never keeps his lead foot outside of his opponent’s, and walks right into the power side of his opponent. He doesn’t work angles at all. So he beat 39-year-old Jones (who looked dead already), 43-year-old Hopkins (in a split decision), and Kessler.

Again- a legend? Absolutely not. One of the top fighters of all time? Far from it.

I’m tired of this bullshit. I don’t know who to blame- the promoters or the cunts like Joe that want to fight old guys because they think it means something.

Now the next megafight? Pac and DLH. Fuck them. I ain’t buying that shit.

I’d rather watch Lacy and Taylor than the “superfights” they shove down our throats and bubble up with 24/7.

I’m ashamed of myself for even falling for this.

Well all said and done Roy captured a title from super middleweight thru heavyweight. Nothing will ever take that away and that surely puts him somewhere no one else has ever been.

I think for Roy alot of it was the muscle loss to drop out of the heavy division coupled with age. Still my all time favorite though.

I really hate the “he’s undefeated, no-one can argue with that” line of reasoning. I want to base my opinion on watching someone box, not a scorecard.

Apparently, not a lot of people bought into the pre-fight hype:

-Tough times for the economy. Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr. was expected to do a half million buys and ended up with less than 225,000
