Join The Quest To 405 Deadlift!

Good thread. Its like the 500 deadlift thread…for us weaker folk
I pulled 315 a few cycles ago right before I had my wisdom teeth pulled out. Going to test tonight or tomorrow night. Hopefully I’ve made some progress.
I’ve been doing 5/3/1 for 6 cycles. When I started, I could only do 275 for two back breaking, terrible reps. I did 275 for 5 reps about 2 weeks ago. 285 for 3 reps on Saturday. I think I have some form issues, because my first rep tends to be really sloppy, but the rest are alright.
I’ll have my wisdom teeth pulled this week, how long did it take you to get back in the gym?

I schedules my appointment so that they would be removed at the start of my deload week, so I wouldn’t miss anything important. I was back in the gym the next week. So…about a week. If you’re dying to get back in the gym, maybe sooner. I had 4 taken out, so I didn’t want to do shit.

A week doesn’t sound too bad… They will take out 2 first, then 3 weeks later the other 2. Might just ask them to pull them all at once. I will probably have a gigantic balloonhead for a few days though haha. Anyway, will see how it goes. Thanks for the answer and sorry for the hijack. ; )

I’m in. 355x1 right now, sumo raw.

I always heard that you progress faster by lifting with stronger people - so I’d like to join in!
Did 305# in my first meet 2 weeks ago, and tonight did 250 x 4.
I’m doing the 5/3/1, but it’s going to be a lot of cycles before I get to #405!

no straps right?
Shouldn’t really need any yet  but I guess you could. I sometimes go alternate grip on my top sets, but DOH other than that. Especially if I have chalk, I just use DOH
KTranman wrote:

I was at 295x1 and 285x3 for awhile. But then I decided to do a mixed grip instead of double-overhand and got 315x5 today. I’ll try chalk for the first time as soon as my orders from elitefts arrive.

Are there any rules or just get to 405?
No rules, just pull it ASAP

Something that I changed up, was I rack pull every other deadlift day. So since today I deadlifted, in 5 days I’ll rack pull instead. It’s weird because my sticking point is actually from the floor, but since I’ve been doing this, both my rack pull AND my regular deadlift have shot up. A month ago, or a little more, my 1RM deadlift was 350, but today I pulled 365 X 6. Try this out if you want

Best of luck to all of you! Keep pulling heavy and bust out the chalk brahs! You’ll get their in no time! Unless you’ve got tiny t-rex arms and long-ass gazelle legs
Haha, I think I’m built for deadlifts. My box squat is a weak 250 X 6, and today I deadlifted 365 X 6. Oh well, it’ll come around eventually :)
You seem very much like me in that sense. I’m 6ft and 170lb (was 176), deadlift max probably about 320-330 now (haven’t done them in a long time because of my back otherwise I’m sure it’d be close to 405 now lol) and also I’ve never been a good squatter. I think you’ll get ahead faster than me though because you have a fast metabolism and don’t have to keep stopping to cut lol.

I think the rack pulling comment is interesting though considering I too have my sticking point at the bottom (in general, if the weight starts going up I get the lift completely). I started doing them a few days ago for fun to see how I like them and hopefully my back will be fine with them, I didn’t expect them to help much with the DL though because of where my sticking point is. What are you rack pulling?

Also I thought I saw you post that you were doing MAX-OT somewhere, how is that working in with you DLing every 5 days?

I got 405 for a single a few weeks ago, having been on 315x5 8 weeks before

I did the following

a) did a ‘semi sumo’ stance for leverage
b) on my warm ups focused on pulling as quickly as possible (“gripping” all the slack out of the bar)
c) used chalk
d) started alternating lots of doubles and singles with reps (so one week reps, one week lots of singles)

if you’re doing 365x5 you should be able to lift 405. Good luck

Sorry dude, but I don’t have a fast metabolism. I accepted the fact I’m gonna have to say bye bye to my abs if I want to pack on some size. All that bulking/cutting is spinning your wheels. Since I lost my six pack and actually put on some muscle, I’ve gotten a lot more compliments than when I was ripped. I’m not planning on cutting for another few years lol

Well I’ve been thinking about MAX-OT. I think I’ve changed it up too much to where I’m not really doing it anymore lol. I threw out arms day and work biceps with shoulders, and just skip the “rest days” until I feel I need them. So this has me deadlifting/rack pulling every 5-6 days

This here, very important, but often neglected. Good habit to be in, so you don’t waste energy and elasticity on getting the slack out of the bar.

lol well see the fact that you were ripped and had abs makes me think you do have a fast metabolism. Or at least normal. Mine is ridiculously slow so even on a clean bulk up I eventually have to cut down or else Iâ??d be at 18+% more often than not which I donâ??t like.

What do you guys think about sumo style, especially for taller lifters? I hear mostly good things about the difference in weight one can pull with it, how exactly does the emphasis on muscles shift when switching to sumo? I would think more glutes

I’m definitely in on this one. Tbh I’ve pulled 405 before; however I’ve since dialled back the weight completely as my form was atrocious and my lower back was kicking out like a mofo (god knows how bad it was for the 405 lift). So my target is to pull 405+ with perfect form.

Doing 5/3/1 like others; usually get someone to watch for my last set and stop me when my form goes. My last cycle I pulled 330 x 6.
Recently increased my calories so I’m looking forward to seeing it go up a bit.

Good luck all.

A little over 405 but hit my first deadlift PR the other day in like 8 months at 435. Pulling the slack out of the bar before i lifted was what was keeping me back, dont let it happen to you.
Please point out any lifting flaws I know the camera is at a bad angle.

Just got a box of chalk for the first time

I have a camera so i’ll film my 405 when i attempt it. It might be awhile tho

Congrats man. Something I saw was your left foot, looks like you are going on your toes a bit there at the top of the lift. Keep driving through the heels

Nice song choice

What’s your height and weight?

I always found that to be true! I usually find it hard to find someone to lift with that is stronger than me in power movements. I also find it hard to find someone to lift with consistently I don’t know if anyone else has this problem. I could probably still pull in the mid four’s will find out tonight!

What style of deadlift is everyone using for their workouts? Does anyone change up their routine romanians standard overhand alternate? I am wondering if I am the only one changing it up like that

Haha I’ve been playing that song for so long now. Even after like 2 years still gets me pumped. I’m 6’2 205lb.
