You’re doing really well for your age and weight. Now you just need to start ramping up the calories and get some body mass going. You’re going to hit a major growth spurt soon. When you do, eat everything you can get your hands on (matter of fact, right now would be a good time to get in the habit).
How much do you eat in a day right now?

Not sure, i used to count calories when i went from 120-150 last year and that was about 3400 a day but i stopped and dropped down but I’m a lot stronger now then i was at 150. Plus I’m competing in a powerlifting meet in the 148 raw class in 2 months so I want to keep myself in that range. But in August I think i’m going to go back to gaining a lb per week and get up into the 160-170 range for a while.

Hit 285 a few weeks back for a 10 lb PR, 295 got stuck a few inches off my chest.
If I don’t hit 315 before the end of summer, then I’ll quit lifting lol.

Was so in the zone when benching today, hitting a 315 bench has always been one of my goals for a long time and felt amazing to do it!
I was going lone wolf today so next time I’l get a mate to come with and put a vid up![/quote]
Congrats! Now get to 405 ![]()
I’m in. My best is a 255 bench and I’m currently sitting at 200lbs.
What steps are you guys taking to hit 315? I’ve started doing floor presses and DB pressing.

Haha thanks dude! Goal for the end of the year I am hoping to hit 352 but right now my focus is on my deadlift then squat. Wanna hit a raw powerlifting show next year with some of my mates that are also interested. Met this guy at gym the other night (we only really have health clubs here in SA virgin active), anyways this dude is from the UK and did strongman and powerlifting comps his whole life so been picking his brain. Amazing to see him bench 550 the other day, jeeesus!

Well I went from 242 to 315 from Jan to March and that literally was from wave loading using HPM and eating like a bat outa fucking hell. Getting strong on my push presses and having a lot of volume has cranked my whole game up. Not meaning that you gotta slam urself into the ground but structuring your volume as to steadily increase as you get use to it.
Also what I did was because I have two ‘pressing days’, on the second, after my 3 main core lifts I rotated triceps circuits for 3 weeks, then shoulders for 3 weeks then pecs. Now from next week I am doing the same but just rotating those targeted muscles every week.

Thanks man! I appreciate you sharing that. Are the circuits you mentioned more on the isolation exercise side?

Just in general, males go through a peak period of growth at around 16 years old. Of course sometimes its sooner and sometimes later, but pretty close to it: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9e/Child_development_stages.svg/800px-Child_development_stages.svg.png
I really meant it as a warning not to starve yourself to stay in a particular weight class when your body wants to grow.

Don’t worry, I’m definitely not starving myself, right now i’m even trying to put on about 1lb per week because i can still gain 5-7lbs and still make weight without having to do anything, which is what i want for my first meet.

Well I mean not necessarily isolation, like for triceps I like to use close grip benching and for shoulers I like military presses but normally what I do is take 2 exercises and superset for like 8 reps x 3 sets and then do another pairing for the same. Depending how I feel I choose what I want to use. For instance doing Military press and lateral raises and then dumbbell over head pressing with single arm dumbbel jerks as an example.

AH, makes sense. I didn’t know he was 16. I just thought it was odd that you knew he was going to have a growth spurt.
Definitely do not ignore those hunger pangs. I remember coming home from school and downing four pb & j sandwiches before dinner. Oh to be young again.

If you seriously stick with weight training for the next 10 ten years, you will not be disappointed with the results. Unless of course, you start squatting on a bosu ball and doing other dumb stuff ![]()

Haha yeah I don’t see myself stopping at all, especially since i don’t play highschool sports or whatever, so training is like my focus. Thanks for the encouraging words.
Update time, guys!
Six weeks ago, 285 was my 1RM. Today, I nailed it for two! Should put me right at 300 for a 1RM. If progress keeps coming like this, I’ll be at 315 in another 6-8 weeks.
I’ll join. My max right now is around 230, coincidentally my bodyweight. I’m busting ass to break 300 by year’s end. It’s a lofty goal, but I think it can be done. Bench has been progressing well in the last 2 weeks. I’ve been reading/checking vids on technique and that has been a help.
See you at 315 next year.
age 17
weight 250
height 5’10
Hit 315 couple days ago ussing a wider grip and a pretty good arch lookin for 400 now
I put up a PR this week of 190 x 9. This is a 1rep 245 on the calculator. I know it’s not completly accurate but I am increasing.
I’ve also put on about 5 lbs. I’m up to 155.
