Hey man, was curious where you are in the Ph?

I live in Quezon City. You?

Got it. Any plans on competing in powerlifting? I saw a meet in Mandaluyong on January 2020.

Oh nice, glad you found one. You gonna join?

No plans to compete as of now. Burried too deep in my studies. Can’t even lift until after November 22

We probably should delete those btw

registration deadline was October 23 lol. But hey, good to know there are meets here. There’s also a Novice category so that’s nice

Quick 40 min workout
Front Squats 145 5x5
Bench 115x3 135x3 145x10 135x8 115x10
Lat Pulldown 18,10,8 reps (RP)
Push Up 19,5,5 (RP)
Farmers Walk 70lbs each hand, 2 rounds

That sucks. I daydream of lifting when I can’t go to the gym lol. Do you do bodyweight stuff for the meantime?

I spend too much time on the forums instead, yet there isn’t a new entry in my log. Haha.

Ideally, I’m supposed to be doing pullups cause I really wanna get better at them. But I haven’t found a proper bar or anything yet to do them at home. (Insert more excuses here lol). Anyway, I’m just too tired when I get home too after 10 to 12 hours of studying the whole day. I’d also rather not do push ups without pullups because my chest is already overdeveloped compared to my back. No main BB movement for the back in 5/3/1, so I structure my training such that there’s a lot more back movements (usually three, with one as unilateral work non negotiable) and my chest movement is just bench and some dips afterwards

I’m starting to realise there’s a massive disparity in strength between my push and my pull too. I can’t say you can tell from my physique though, to be honest.

I don’t think push ups and pull ups are a fair comparison though. Pull ups and dips maybe?

Have you considered one of those bars that you just hang in a doorway?
Anyway, 12 hrs of studying sounds horrible. I would probably just sleep and not bother with working out after that kind of mental torture lol

Yeah, not really about physique. It concerns me because it could lead to potential injury in sports. What made you say you have a massive disparity? Bench compared to barbell row?

@johnimperial yeah, you’re correct. Pull ups is a vertical pull and pushups is a horizontal push, so they’re not exactly the opposite if each other. But better than nothing I guess.

Yeah, I’ve considered it. Most likely will get things sorted out after this exam

I can bench bodyweight for 10, I reckon I’d struggle to hit 6/7 pull ups. I don’t barbell row often enough to know my strength levels there but I’m confident it’s nowhere near my bench

I see. Brian Alsruhe puts a lot of value in training the back more than the chest (or at the very least as much as the chest) and he’s pretty vocal about it in his videos. Dude’s got a point. You don’t ever hear someone saying “oh my back is too strong that it’s overpowering my chest and causing problems”

It’s something I’ve heard from a million different sources, certainly not unique to Brian. John Maccallum was talking about this in the 60s. I think I’ll have to accept @T3hPwnisher challenge and try and become the first person ever to overtrain their upper back come January.

What is this challenge you speak of?

To become the first person ever to overtrain their upper back.

Oh, thought you had a specific program in mind for that overtrained back you were talking about lol

I’m not very smart so I would imagine a butt load of volume will be my go to.
