Yup. 150 is all they got, unless I SteelyD rig up a heavier one.

Add some chains!!!

5-3-1 Deads, TM 440.

Deads: 90 x 10, 135 x10, 225 x5, 325 x5, 375 x3, 420 x 5.

Finisher: 315 x 16.

GM’s to parallel pins: 45 x5, 95 x5, 145 x5, 195 x 5.

Notes: I felt good tonight and was gassed after both the money set and the finisher. I pulled 418 for my second at the December 5 meet, and missed my 3rd at around 452. I think 455 would be my second lift right now. We’ll see next time I test.

Wow! That 375x8 was a big jump in estimated max. I did some statistics and that one performance pulled your average rate of strength gain for this bout of 5/3/1 from .5lbs a day up to almost 1lb a day. Good day for squats, and overall good hard work as usual.
I have been thinking about last night, and I hope it was not an outlier. My weak point in squats is always my lower back. My form flaw is getting forward when I get tired, and this puts more stress on my lower back, and that’s when I fail. I think hitting the deads hard and adding in the GMs is helping my squats, but last night was the first time since starting 5-3-1 again that my lower back was not fried from deads going into the set. I got a little unplanned rest due to me schedule, and guess what, PR. I think what I am going to do is take myself off the strict 7-day week and not worry so much about getting deads, press, bench, and squats done in a 7 day period–8 or 9 days is fine. On the other hand, I don’t think you need to be totally fresh every time or make PRs every time to make progress. You can make progress and defer the measurable result until you get a little rest. So, I go back and forth on this.
Don’t you find that most significant progress is, at first, an outlier? You’ve hit a new plateau. My gains jump in waves. They peak and drop, but not as low previously and then peak again, kind of like a wave cresting. That sounds very poetic

That must have been a great feeling hitting 375 for 8.

Nice work my friend.

Great work, Jack. Difinitely moving up. Your progress has been awesome to watch…and still is.

Catching up with you Jack. thats some damn good work you have going on. How much time are your workouts taking you to complete?

Wow. Great progress. You’ll be pulling 500 in no time.

Ms. O, I think that is very insightful. Even if it was an outlier, it sets new expectations which is a big part of the game. I was kinda down about my lifting and in a funk since I finished my squat program, so yes, it was a great feeling. It was my first real good day in the gym in several months.

P.S. Its good to have you here with with O’35ers. Thanks for stopping in.

Thanks Pete, Strick, and Steve, for checking in on me. I appreciate it. JW, I don’t really time my workouts anymore, I try and get in and get out but I take all the rest I think I need to get a good set in. Its usually about an hour with warmups and stretching.

1’s day, Press, TM 190

Press: 45 x20, 90 x10, 145 x5, 160 x3, 180 x4, 135 x 14.

Chins: 6, 5, 4, 4, 4.

Dips: BW x 10, +25 x 5, +50 x 5, BW x 10.

Lat Pulldowns: 135 x10 (front of chin), 135 x10 (back of neck), 150 x6 (back of neck).

DBOHP (Standing): 50s x 15, 65s x 5.

SB Curls: 90 x5.

DB Hammer Curls: 35s x 15.

Notes: I felt pretty good tonight. Cleaning the 65s into position was more challenging than I thought it would be.

Nice work, Jack. 180x4 is nice and strong. Pushing out 5 reps with bw+50# is pretty damned impressive as well.

Nice work over here Jack!

Great progress. You got another meet lined up?

Thanks LS, and SteelyD, for the encouragement. Harry, I am looking for a meet, but the USAPL site in WA sucks. I think there is a push-pull coming up in June and a full power meet in July. I may have check in with the Pale One about an online meet as well.

So, I was supposed to squat Yesterday. Instead I closed on my house and then drove to Portland and picked up an older Lexus GS 430 with 80k on it. But I paid cash and the thing is perfect, inside and out. Its got the L-Tuned suspension, new brakes, its big service just done, the Mark Levinson stereo (that freakin rocks by the way), and a 300Hp V-8. I smiled all the way home. Its not as billy-goat like as my old Audi S4, but I am pretty happy with it and its paid for.

Hopefully, squats later today.

A car? really Jack? you obviously haven’t gained enough weight if you are driving anything other than a truck or large SUV.

ACtually one night a couple years ago my wife’s brother loaned me his hybrid to drive around Chicago in when we were in town. Out drinking, of course. Visiting some old friends at old haunts. Was really surprised by the power a Lexus hybrid has, especially on the way back to his house, on the Kennedy, when I hit 120.

Pete, I really, really miss my 07 Tundra. That was an awesome truck. And and I was thinking about how much my ass had grown driving the GS home last night. But it is pretty fun to drive.

1’s day, Squats. TM 415.

Squats: 45 x 10, 135 x10, 225 x 5, 315 x5, 355 x3, 395 x 5.

Front Squats: 185 x 5, 225 x 5, 275 x 1, 300 x 1 (PR +25 lbs.)

Notes: I was not in the mood for the gym, but it had to get done. I wanted 6 reps on squats, but I am not sure it would have gone, so I stopped at 5. I have more in me on the front squats, but I am not in a hurry. I think I’ll take a few cheap PRs on these for a few weeks.

Its been a big couple of days. I got my WA bar exam results today–I passed, thank god.

Those are great squat reps for a day you aren’t feeling it. Congrats on the bar.
