Jim Tressel Resigns

In a way I suppose so, but in another, not really.

Tressel had Lloyd’s number from the get go and I personally didn’t see any hope in Rodriquez beating that juggernaut of a program with his “speedy” scheme.

I don’t want OSU to be punished too badly to be honest. I want them to still be bowl elligible and not lose any scholarships because I want UM’s rise back into greatness to be legit and not on the coat-tails of OSU’s bump in the road.[/quote]

I would have loved for Hoke to beat them without violations in place. This is bigger then the Reggie Bush situation at USC. I expect an NCAA punishment along the same lines if not larger then what was handed down to USC. The NCAA is taking a hit for how it handled the Cam Newton situation so they will make an example of O$U.

WC I am to lazy to look but I did say in the College football thread when this story broke that Pryor will not be back in a Buckeye uniform. He should have just come out in the regular draft.

It might be a smart move, I just wonder what team would see him as a fit.

Redskins?

I’m writing this as a born and bred U of M fan.

Regarding all this heat coming down on Pryor:

He’s opportunistic, accustomed to being treated in a special way, and I’m fairly confident we can all agree that he’s been plain ol’ spoiled since he was the belle of the recruiting class.

Is all this shit that’s gone on with him and his teammates HIS fault?

No.

Know who’s to blame?

Sweatervest Tressel

He’s a facade. A shell. He’s made who knows how much money on his success and leadership books when in reality he hasn’t taken care of his own players seemingly back to the Youngstown days. Players are going to fuck up and fuck up a lot because they’re 18-22 year old KIDS. SPOILED KIDS. Tressel, as basically the CEO of a MAJOR corporation with a giant fanbase can’t be expected to follow his players around. But he can hire coaches and mentors that emulate his published “doctrine” and manage the team in that regard. He could’ve set curfews, off limits areas, and policed his team inside the locker room but he didn’t. He let them run wild, rolled the dice on suspect discipline for top ten runs at the championship every year.

People, maybe OSU fans, might say “well it was good while it lasted” but was it really? Especially knowing what we know now?

OSU was able to obtain some of the best recruits in the nation, mold many of them into NFL caliber players, and win a ton of Big 10 championships over the last decade. Know what those championships mean now?

Dick.

Every time Michigan played OSU and that damned tuba player floped his legs out in front of him to dot the “i” in Ohio my blood would boil. Now? It’s a ridiculous joke.

Hopefully this whole mess with USC and now OSU kickstarts a trend that puts programs on a more legitimate path. I love college football, LOVE it. Love the rivalries, the personalities, even the damned marching bands. What I don’t love, however, is reading offseason headlines about different programs around the country that feel like they belong on the police blotter rather than the sports page.

Coaches, lead your young players so that they can become a MEN rather than some expendable commodity. Let Tressels’ fall from grace be your example.

All I know is BYU is probably going to suck for a few years as they find their feet in the Independent thing.

Well said.

Brad… But isn’t it going to suck when a sweatervestless Ohio state STILL beats Michigan this year?

Hahahaha jk

Greg dont know about that honestly, they going to win with a third string team. Half will be suspended.

The only thing that bothered me was the accusation of how he rigged the raffle at the kids summer camp so the 4 and 5 star kids won all the prizes, that’s just sick lol

I would agree with you if it wasn’t for the fact that 99% of major college football programs have similar or worse problems, Michigan included…

If it’s not incentives for players its illegal recruiting or something else. With millions and millions of dollars on the line, and the players largely unsupervised, it’s bound to happen.

FTR I don’t think there’s any easy solution, I’m just saying Tressel is DEFINITELY not the only one, and he’s likely in the majority among college coaches

Just finished reading the new Sports Illustrated article as well. If all that is true, Tressel is one of the biggest slime balls in sports.

All of the blame should be placed on him, as he was the one responsible for leading those student athletes both on the field as well as off of it.

No, it just means Michigan and every other major D1 football school is better at not getting caught (for now) than OSU is. You really can just assume a level playing field with the biggest d1 schools because they ALL cheat the system in some manner. Hell, half the time they get caught and get a slap on the wrist because the NCAA doesn’t need to make an example out of anyone at that moment. Last year a couple of South Carolina players got caught living in an upscale hotel in Columbia on heavily discounted rent and no punishment has been issued at this time.

You can’t tell me that with the bloodthirst UM fans have had lately for W’s and motherfucking RICH ROD coaching that they weren’t bending the rules as well. An administration that will fire a coach of Rich Rodriquez’s caliber after only 3 years is an administration that is willing to go way beyond the rules to win.

Oh, and LOL @ anyone who is a fan of an SEC school commenting negatively on this. Something about glass houses and stones, I can’t remember exactly.

^LOL
