Jesus Rode a Dinosaur

Why do you keep arguing with things I didn’t say? Is it easier for you?

Eternity is a concept, and as such it does exist. Whether an infinite period of time makes sense in a physical way, is something else and besides the point anyway.

What I said was: There is no Eternal Torment, implying that there’s no Hell.

As for who told me, well I guess that’d be good ol’Common Sense which says that fiction should not be considered as being objectively real. Stephen King’s Christine is an entertaining book, but you shouldn’t fear being attacked by a 1958 Plymouth Fury.

Oh, it started out as a radio show. Damn, now I get where the Authority comes from. A radio show, everyone knows that THE TRUTH IS FROM THE RADIO.

You’re going at it the wrong way. Before educating people on the Bible’s content, you have to FIRST establish the validity of the Bible. Since it’s already been shown that it’s in no way of “divine” origin, it doesn’t really matter what it says and “educating” someone about this or that concept from the Bible is just as relevant as arguing over Batman’s shoe size or the Necronomicon’s page count. (12EEE and 923 respectively.)

You mean entertainment purpose. Even as entertainment, the Bible ain’t that good. A good editor, and trimming off maybe a thousand page would go a long way.

Again, once you’ve established that the Bible is no more than a big compendium of history, poems, laws, and mythical tales of some ancient desert wandering tribes of the middle east, you can stop “studying” the rest of it for “Truth.”

You should stop studying the Bible, take a step back, and put in in proper perspective. Afterwards, you’ll understand why it doesn’t matter at all whether Hell has nine or twelve floors and how hot are the flames.

The Eternal Torment is being subjected to Bible thumpers spouting nonsense in every single fucking thread on every site on the entire internet.

I get it here, I see it in blog comments, on Slashdot. It’s even come up on sites reviewing video games.

You’re like a fucking mind rot that’s infecting every place where there’s a text box and a submit button.

Another deluded Christian who thinks he can “prove” God. Let me guess? You prove God using Scripture, right?

I’m claiming it’s made up crap. Using Crapture to “prove” anything is completely ridiculous.

BUT, you ARE NOT FREE to escape the consequences of these acts. Let me repeat: you are free to choose, but not free to escape the consequences of that choice.

Agreed.

You may think that I am delusional. The night that my fiance died many years ago, the Lord spoke to me. I swear upon my immortal soul that, just as if you were in the same room speaking to me, I heard His voice. It was a voice like I have never heard before or since. I know, of course, that I cannot prove this to you but, as I said, I swear upon my immortal soul that I speak the truth.

He spoke to you at a time when you where experiencing extreme mental anguish, loss and deep sorrow (I presume).

My future wife-to-be dies, and you PRESUME that I’m feeling anguish, loss and deep sorrow?!?
You have confirmed my judgment of you, Pookie. You truly have no soul.

Goodbye.

Well, neither does anyone else, so it’s a moot point.

If you mean it in the sense that I’m a coldhearted, insensitive bastard, well then I apologize for offending you. In no way did I mean to disparage the pain you felt when you lost your fiancée. If that’s the feeling you got from what I wrote, know that it was not my intent.

Hey, I like your reasoning! If I want to go on a killing spree, I should just find Jesus beforehand, and then I’ll be scot free.

You know, Ivan, sometimes when I read your posts I secretly hope that you are 12 years old, because I can imagine no other explanation for your childish simplicity. Faulknerian man-child, anyone?

You are so easily offended. It is quite humoreous.

Why do you hate Christian so much? It is not my fault where you spend eternity. It is yours.

BTW - I’m a little older than 12, and I’ve never gone on a killing spree. Those were bother very ignorant statements.

Not to answer for Headhunter, but personally, my flesh is always warring against my spirit. Part of me would like to see you all get saved and live and eternity in heaven. Yet, because you are so blasphmous and vile, the worldly part of me wouldn’t mind stepping on your ashes as you burn.

Call me human.

No matter how much we disagree on many things, I have no wish to see you (or anyone else on these forums) suffer or come to harm in any way. I wouldn’t enjoy seeing you “burn” or getting a beating, or experience any other physical harm.

How does one derive joy from another’s suffering?

You missed the entire first part of my post. Wouldn’t it be easier to just accept Jesus and live in heaven?

You and all the other athiests here need to remember that your decisions affect your outcome. Don’t blame me for the road you travel. And realize, I was on the same road, but I decided to take the path of Jesus instead.

Given the right wardrobe and…um, accessories, I can think of a few ways.

Sucker.

wtf? I’m easily offended? Nothing you have said has offended me, I just think you’re ignorant, that’s all.

And for the last time, I don’t hate Christians. I have christian friends, coworkers, etc. I just hate ignorance.

Also, I never suggested that you went on a killing spree. I was just using it as an extreme example of your reasoning. You excused your violent fantasies by saying that you were a flawed human, but that you would be forgiven because you are trying to be a good Christian. However, using that reasoning, someone could commit any atrocity they felt like, and then ask for forgiveness and spend eternity with you (poor, poor soul).

I certainly DID suggest you were a Faulknerian man-child, and due to your response, I stick by that.

You wouldn’t, perchance, happen to have a few pictures? For some reason, I can’t seem to properly visualize what it is you’re implying.

No. How could living your life according to something you know to be a lie be easier? Do honesty, integrity and dignity mean nothing to you?

I have yet to meet an irresponsible atheist. As far as ethics and morals go, I find that most agnostics/atheists have generally given more thought to the questions of morality, “good” and “evil,” and how to act in society and toward their fellow men.

In fact, I find that most believers have a lot of difficulty discussing moral values intelligently, as they’ve never really had to think about it. They just follow the rules from God. When God makes the rules, you don’t have to think about the issues, you just go with what He says. Really, even if something makes no sense, God is right and you’re wrong, no? So you bash gays, scorn believers of other faiths, consider women “beneath” men, etc.

Of course, some of the most extreme and stupid rules, such as killing your own children, get glossed over or dismissed as obsolete laws or “poetry.” Oddly, rules on the same page about homosexuals still apply. Pick and choose, I guess.

Yeah, but you’re going backward. Did you miss the sign “Bronze Age Next 5 Exits?”

If you were someone who deserved respect, I would be concerned. However, your disdain for Christians is obvious in your words. Is it because you lose so many debates about important world issues to Christians?

It is interesting that you claim to know so much about God, yet know so little about the Bible. You will reap what you sow.

What is there to know except that there is no such a thing as “a God” and that the Bible is just an old book that is mistakenly taken seriously by well-indoctrinated people?
terribleivan wrote:

Yeah, the debates usually go like this:

Me: “I don’t have any problem with homosexuality.”

Fundie: “JESUS HATES QUEERS!”

Me: “You win, I stand corrected.”

Bible fundamentalists who would say something like that are NOT Bible fundamentalists. If they were, they would precisely follow what Jesus taught which would be the complete opposite of saying “Jesus hates queers” or anything of that nature.

There are extremists who might say this and I have yet to come across someone who says “Jesus hates queers”. You should see through that garbage, Jesus doesn’t hate anyone. Where in the Bible does it say that Jesus hates someone?

There are many people that claim to be Christians and aren’t, obviously. Just because one individual says something horrible like that, doesn’t mean that all other Christians feel the same. Same as any other belief system. I thought you were a better debater than this.

I know, I got frustrated terribleivan’s ridiculous responses. I was being facetious…

I realize that a true follower of the teachings of Christ would never say that. I mean, Jesus was a long-haired sandal-wearing hippie who preached peace and love. Its pretty ironic when you realize how blood-thirsty the religious right is…

I think Jesus’s philosophy is very admirable, I just rarely see it being implemented by his followers. You know, turning the other cheek, humility, and all that. Mostly I just hear about my eternity in hell, and how I better get on my knees and worship or else.

Your relationship with God is between you and God. How God judges you or anyone else is for God to decide, not people. I personally hope that you find the Lord. It is not for me to tell you what God thinks of you or how he is going to judge you. It is for God alone. I to get tired of people that claim to be Christians using scare tactics and automatically judging other people. That is what God does, not us.

Who am I to tell you how God is going to judge you? We are all human beings with sin. I just wanted to let you know where I am coming from. Whoever you are, I hope that you find God and truth. I truly hope the best for you.
