That is an awesome PR!
Congrats!

Nice!
You may have had an easier time hitting that PR if you didn’t have so many reps in your warm up sets. Were you trying to PR or is this a typical set up for you?
What I used to do to increase my max was a 5x5 scheme. I’d warm up in 30lb increments until I hit my target weight then try to pull 5x5. If I could get that easily, I’d move up in weight the next time and drop down to 5x3. I’d work that weight until I could easily pull 5x5, then up the weight and drop the reps again. Helped me steadily progress.[/quote]
Thanks sic. I wasnt’ really aiming to get a PR, it’s just that I saw the 25 lb plates just sitting there so lonely…so I gave it a go. Next time I aim for a PR I’ll for sure take your advice!

I agree with sic. Cut back a bit on those reps when shooting for a PR. Singles would be enough after your warm up.
On the 5x5’s, I was told its not a good idea for deadlifts. But if you really wanted to do them to only go up to 70%. I forgot why. I wasn’t listening because I was mad.
255 is a very sweet number ![]()

lmao, let me know when you remember why! Thanks…and I tried your advice on the warming gel, it’s very nice. I had some thai ointment from long ago that seems to be working ![]()
Last night’s workout- I finally had someone spot me on the bench that knows what they’re doing- gave me a liftoff, etc. I was able to lift more than I thought I could!
Bench
1 x 95 x 12
1 x 115 x 6
1 x 125 x 4
1 x 135 x 2 PR
1 x 140 x 1 PR- this felt pretty good, not too hard …next time more!

thanks rondastarr! Turkish get ups are done either with a kettlebell or you can do them with a dumbell- there is a good instructional video on them on artofstrength.com under the video section.
Basically you start laying down with one kb/dumbell pressed above your chest, do a sit up and then press up through one leg to stand. Then back to laying down! Very nice for conditioning, and shoulder stability/core in particular. They really get your heart going if you do them quickly, that is for sure!!
Wow- it’s been a month! I’ve had some trouble getting on to this site for some crazy reason…and then there was the strep throat week, soo here we are in Feb!
Today’s w/o- warm up then
Bench press
6 x 4 120 lb
BB row
6 x 5 105 lb
overhead press w/ KB
4 x 10 26lb
chin ups
5 x 6
bb curl
3 x 5 65 lb
skull crusher
3 x 5 50 lb
I’m looking for my next program…any recs? Increased strength being the primary goal. I’m thinking of going to 3 days of lifting so I can fit in more kickboxing…
Hi jen, glad to see you back.
I had a lot of trouble loading the site in the past month, but it seems to be fixed now.
I haven’t tried it yet, but Claire got me excited to give ETD a try. Check out her thread, she gave a pretty good explanation. Looks like a good way to condition and build strength.

No more excuses. You have to keep us posted ![]()
Nice Benching!
And glad you feel better.
c.
Thanks dianab and c.! That ETD looks rough! Not sure I’ve figured it all out but I may just give it a whirl. Next week will be mostly off the weights and then I’ll start something new.
Yesterday’s w/o, from which I am pretty sore today- ouch, my butt!
Bulgarian split squat w/KB 3 x 15
SLDL 135 lbs 3 x 15
one legged deadlift w/ KB 3 x 15
Lunges w/KB 3 x 60 - now that’s why I hurt ![]()
Today’s w/o was pretty nice- fun!
Elliptical warm up
Clean & Front squat
1 x 12 45lb
6 x 3 115 lb- finally cleaned 115! That’s a PR on that for me. I was able to go really low on the squats too
Deadlift
1 x 8 155
1 x 6 185
1 x 4 205
1 x 2 225
1 x 1 255 - my previous PR but it went up ugly and my grip was slipping at the top
1 x 1 255- this one was better!
Leg extensions,
3 x 6 105 lb
God I need a good stretch tonight…yoga for sure.
Great job on the PR. 115 and 255 are great numbers.
Diana
Nice job on the deadlift AND 115 clean and squat!
I don’t think I could clean anywhere close to 115. Heck, I can’t even clean my house.
c.
First EDT workout today, after a week off weights, and I have one word. SHIIIIIIIIIT. It was hard.
A1 Bench Press 95lbs 10 x 5 = 50 reps
A2 Front Squat 95lbs 10 x 5 = 50 reps
B1 Step ups to bench, 65lbs 9 x 4 (each)= 36 reps (72 total)
B2 Pull ups BW 8 x 5, 1 x 4 = 44 reps
I’m going to do EDT on Wed and Fri again, full body- I can’t decide if I need 3 different workouts or repeat this one on Friday and do a different one on Wed. What do you all think?
I would pick different exercises for each day. I did a lower body EDT today and my quads and hamstrings already hurt.
