James Stumbles Through Powerlifting

60 second rest intervals are very humbling.

Nice work.

Thanks FB!

Fri training
Paused Squats: 103260 w/ 90 second rest
Front squats: 83205
Single leg press: 15, 12, 10, 10, 10
Abs

I laid off the walking lunges tonight as my knees were sore from the last session. I need to pay more attention to my form. I am doing cable crunches first before my squats and I like how they warm me up. That’s a keeper.

Sat training

OHP 103125 w/ 60 second rest
Incline db press: 310
Flat db press: 3
8
Rolling tri ext: 38
Lat pull downs: 3
10
DB Rows: 36140 from deadstop
DB curls: 3*10
Ab work
Jump rope * 220

Good session today. Increased my pressing a bit to get more volume in there. Hoping this all translates to a bigger bench.

Nice work

I am impressed with the paused squats- and the short rests.

Those cable crunches are a good idea for warm-up.

Thanks Kev. You should try them out as part of 5 3 1. In fact I bet you could do them after your main 5 3 1 lift. If I were to ever do 5 3 1 and do the BBB version that’s what I would do.

GV - yeah, I’m a fan now that I started doing them to warm up. They really seem to help prepare my body for what’s to come. I got the idea from the Juggernaut training manual.

Tues training - deads
Deads: 103335 with 90 second rest
Front squats: 103205
RDLs: 310225
Abs

I’m doing another wave of the 10*3 to get more volume in. I was only supposed to do 9 sets of front squats but decided to just get it over with and do 10. I’ll up the weight next session.

As I was training the guy next to me was literally doing all the same lifts that I was so we struck up a conversation. Turns out he just did a bodybuilding show and was not looking to to a powerlifting meet. He was thinking about the USPA meet in Sept up in Long Beach. He was doing 5/3/1 for the record. It was nice to talk to someone intelligently about programs for a change.

For some reason I read face pulls as “face” pulls for the first time. Like gurning. I’ve typed that word countless times myself and never made that connection.

Video to illustrate point.

This is how we spend our weekends in the UK.

Fri training - back / bi’s
Face pulls: 810
Pendlay rows: 10
3185 w/ 60 second rest
Deadstop DB rows: 4
6140
Pull ups: 4 sets @ +20lbs.
Curls: 3
8
Ab work

FB - they’ve been doing this since 1279? Jeebus, you think they would have found a better hobby since books and TV were invented.

james

That’s how I look after accidentally smelling my boots when I’m banging them out after work.

Sun training
Squats: 5bar, 135, 155, 185, 205, 225, 245, 275, 315 then
Pause squats: 10
3260 with 90 second rest.
Front squats to box: 5
5*135
Abs
Walking lunges
pass out

My bad idea was to do some sets of 5 set before my working sets of 3. That’s about 50 reps above the 60 percent range. I did the front squats to the box for a change of pace and because I was exhausted. I actually like these but am not sure what kind of carryover I’ll get.

Tues training
OHP: 103125 w/ 60 second rest

Rolling tri ext: 3*10
Lat pull downs
Ab work
20 minutes treadmill

Traveling for work this week but found a decent enough gym.

I’m feeling really athletic lately and I think it’s a combination of dropping wheat out of my diet and the high volume I’m doing.

I am becoming a big fan of high volume myself, particularly for squats.

I wouldn’t say I’m a fan Joe…

Fri training - 10s realization phase
Deads: wut 37012
Front squats: wut 4
3215
RDLs: 3
10
Leg curls
Jump rope * 250
15 minutes on stationary bike

Deads went well. According to Juggernaut I’m supposed to leave a couple in the tank which I did. Barely. I’m adding in leg curls in sets of 10 adding weight until I can’t do 10.

Sat training
Bench: wut 12205
Floor press: 6
3225
DB press 3
8
Rolling tri ext: 48
One arm tri pushdown: 3
8

Good session today.

james

With all that tri work you have to be looking at bench numbers going up.

I sincerely hope so…lol.
