Keep at it bro! People always say grades or numbers don’t define you and bla bla bla. We had this really good (hard) professor that disagreed. She openly told us they did. Good thing we all liked her before she said that lol. It wasn’t long before we realized she had a point. Sad reality is, the world cares about numbers. Who can blame them? It’s the only objective way they can measure you against others. Grades not only reflect how smart you are, but it can also reflect how hard you work for it

Wuts that in WAM though?

Cheers man, I hope your results come out looking good too

Couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand the ā€œI just want to passā€ mentality a lot of my peers have, seems irresponsible to me. You’re studying medicine right?

I’m gonna need a translation for WAM

Weighted average mark so like 80.30

Well, to each his own. Some just want to get by. In the future, your clients or patients or whatever will not care about your grades but will care more how you treat them. It’s just gonna suck if you get into a situation like applications where you need to show good grades and you got nothing to show for.

And yep, medicine, although I’ve technically graduated already

Not totally sure I understand, but threshold for a 7 is 85% and threshold for a 6 is 75%

Congrats man. Why the technically? Are you on your internship or something?

Nah, just technically not in medical school anymore. Thought you were asking if I was currently a medical student. And thanks! On to more challenges ahead!

Ahhh fair enough. Do you know which field you’d like to go into? I’m tossing up between emergency, sports medicine or pain medicine

Yup! Trying to get into internal medicine. You don’t need to think about it too much right now. Your preferences can still change, specially during clinical rotations. I thought I wanted surgery all the way until clinical rotations, then when that started, I wanted ophthalmology, ended up liking internal medicine very much in the end. Lol. Won’t hurt to have a preference at first, just don’t force it and be open to other fields.

Emergency medicine is nice but the downside is even after training (residency) you’d still have duties in the hospital where you have to stay overnight every so often. Not sure how the system in your country is though, might be different

Sports medicine is really good too given your background. Quality of life as a physician there is so good man. There’s a chance you might end up working more with old people needing rehab rather than athletes though. You have to note though that there’s somewhat of an overlap between PT, sports/rehab medicine, and orthopedic surgery. No need to go through med school if you want to be a PT. For orthopedics, you usually diagnose and operate and send them to rehab or sprots med afterwards, who eventually sends them to their partner PT. That’s the system here, at least

Not too sure about pain medicine. Didn’t get exposure to it when I was a student or intern.

Awesome man, best of luck. I have a close family friend who is an internal medicine specialist out in Indiana and loves it

Hahah yeah for a while I thought neurology sounded really interesting, but then as soon as we started studying some neuro at uni I tapped out :joy:

Yeah it’s basically shift work here unless you get promoted to a more management/supervision style role

That’s really encouraging! I honest to God know very little about sports med as it’s practiced here in Australia. All I know is, like you said, my physio background will help me a lot there, and I’d like to work with athletes.

Neither to be honest, all I know is it’s a growing field here in Australia and it seems like a soecialty where a lot of people need help

Saturday 30th of November
DE Upper and Lower

Missed Friday’s DE Lower and had enough time to train today so I put the two together. Took like 2.5 hours oops

Warm-Up: 1 Round

  • GHR
  • Pull-Ups
  • Figure-4 Hip Thrusts
  • Hanging Leg Raises
  • Single-Leg Calf Raises
  • Single-Arm Cable Rows
  • Plyo Push-Ups
  • Copenhagens
  • Band Face Pull-Aparts

Comp Squat:

  • 20 x 2 x 5
  • 30 x 2 x 3
  • 40 x 3
  • 50 x 2
  • 60 x 8 x 2 EMOM

Took a while to get these feeling smooth, but they felt pretty solid by the end

Deadlifts:

  • 90 x 8 x 1 EMOM

Like butter

Comp Bench

  • 20 x 5
  • 37.5 x 5
  • 45 x 8 x 3 EMOM

Moved insanely fast, I think from some CNS activation from the squats and deads

Snatch Grip SLDL’s

  • 60 x 6 DOH
  • 80 x 6 DOH PR
  • 90 x 2 x 6 Hook Grip PR
  • 90 x 2 x 6 straps

Hook grip hurt like a bitch so I’m sticking with straps for this

Military Press

  • 20 x lots
  • 30 x 10
  • 35 x 4 x 6 PR

Also felt really strong

Chin-Ups off Mono / Clockwork YTW’s on Incline Bench

  • 8 I think / 2 rounds
  • 5 / 2 rounds
  • 5 / 2 rounds

Barbell Rows / Band Face Pull-Aparts

  • 60 x 2 x 6 super jerky / 8-12
  • 50 x 10 / 8-12

Misloaded the rows and meant to use 55, was wondering why they were so tough (even though my back was already fatigued)

Neurology is damn hard dude lol

Lots of routes to get you ending up working with athletes, but if ever you do decide to go the medicine route, just have a really good reason why you chose medicine. Because you’ll reach the point where you’ll want to quit it everyday, and the only thing you’ll fall back on to keep you going is that reason why you chose it in the first place

Thank you for the advice man, I really appreciate it. To be honest, even though I worked my ass off to get the med place last year, I’ve been enjoying physio so much I’m wondering if I should just stay here. I guess I’ll figure it out in a few years

Yeah dude just enjoy college for now. Just be aware of when you should start looking into med school requirements and stuff so you don’t miss out. I’m guessing it’s somewhere 3rd year or 4th year college
