Sorry to hear that, sounds like timing couldn’t have been worse. Let’s hope the situation normalises ASAP and you can pick back up!
How about a pair of adjustable DBs up to like 60kg each. Couple of hundred bucks
Hey Pinky
That sucks the moving part that is.
You’ll get yourself sorted in time, there come plenty of opportunities.
Do some KB swings for posterior chain, That would be at least something.
one leg RDL’s as well, slow tempo
i know i should be doing KB swings. I just hate KB swings. No particular reason other than laziness, but it got to the point where i think ill have to suck it up.
I’ve looked for those and its like £4-500 sterling. I’d love a pair, just cant justify.
£640 for a pair of up to 32.5kgs… no chance
First piece to a home gym set up for life? If u get oly handles they are good to go on the regular barbell too
I can’t wrap my head around why adjustable dumbbells are as popular as they are. I bought a pair of Olympic db handles for about £20 a few years back. I can’t remember how much I paid for my plates but it was much, much, much less than £400 and I can load them up to 45kg each, more if I use bigger diameter plates (although that does get a bit awkward).
Agreed with this! On strength shop you can buy 2 X oly DB handles and 4 X 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25 plates for £240 which allows you to load up to 42.5 per DB (handles are 5kg). It’s significant cheaper than the clicky adjustable DBs and you’ve then got all the smaller weights you need should you want to go full on home gym, just need to add the 20’s a barbell rack and bench!
(Also strength shop isn’t even the cheapest but all the other places have removed items from their shop so I couldn’t look at prices! When I set up home gym I got rack and bar from SS and weights from fitness superstore)
This is incredible, and something Ill have to investigate.
Sorry should have said they are also out of stock!
yea they are out of stock on pretty much everything except the huge equipment lol. I checked them out a few days ago for more bands.
Something to keep in mind for future though.
Just an FYI, plates over about 2.5kg get really cumbersome really quick because of the increased diameter. I load mine with 2.5kg and they’re pretty similar to a regular dumbbell, can still go up to 45kg like that. 5kg would take you up in the region of 90kg, using 10kg+ plates would probably be unworkable for almost any exercise apart from farmers walks. That’s certainly all I’ve used them for. You’ll also need to pay a bit of attention to the collars you use if you’re pushing the limits of the handles. It’s not like a barbell where the bar stays roughly parallel to the floor.
I regularly use my 10s with my 5s and 2.5s together never really have a problem, slightly more awkward getting them to chest on the Inc bench (resting on your legs is a bit of a mission) but it works for me. I use quick release collars and haven’t had any failures yet. I might load up one handle with 50 (55 Inc handle) tomorrow and test it out (not that I could do much with it haha)
That’s how I imagined it would be when I bought them. Never quite worked that way for me, however I’ve never really liked dumbbell work that much so it might be a factor.
Convenience. I have 1" adjustable DBs that go up to 100 lbs each or I can get 120 lbs on one (not enough 10 lb plates to do it on both). They were on sale for $200 and were a gift. I’m happy I have them, but the fancy ones would be nice for drop sets or quick changes. My handles have threads for the locking collar and it took me a minute to change the weight on one dumbbell yesterday. One of the collars was stuck.
I have Olympic handles so I use the same plates as my barbells (although it’s not as efficient an arrangement as I’d like, I still need more small plates than I would for pure barbell work). When I had quick change collars, I could change them pretty quickly, likely similar to adjustable dumbbells.
Yea don’t get me wrong it is an inconvenience (less so with oly handles and plates and quick release collars) what I’d really like is just a full rack of fixed DBs, but really the cost difference between the three options means is justifiable for me, but if I could afford it I’d be getting the full rack of DBs (even though I don’t use them that much haha).
So would I, but space is also a factor. This Covid-19 nonsense has been good for restoring perspective. I appreciate my home gym now - even if it’s not as cool as a commercial gym.
If you get lucky then occasionally you can find some poor guy who’s selling a full set of DBs and a rack online for cheap. Their loss is your gain.
I do keep my eye out for them, but they’re still in the high hundreds and the cost to benefit ratio is never worth it for me, maybe one day!
