I had a good meet. Got a meet PR and new USAPL state record for every lift and my total.
Squat 1: 87.5 kg (192.5 lb) – three whites
Squat 2: 92.5 kg (209 lb) – three whites and meet PR/state record
Squat 3: 95 kg (214.5 lb) – FAIL . . . can’t figure out what happened. This one is bothering me a bit.
Bench 1: 45 kg (99 lb) – two whites
Bench 2: 47.5 kg (104.5 lb) – two whites . . . one side judge said “butt lift” so the head judge actually moved off his chair to watch for it on my third attempt. I set up with my feet wider than normal for my third attempt even though I didn’t believe I was lifting my ass.
Bench 3: 50 kg (110 lb) – two whites and meet PR/state record
Head judge came back to talk to me after the session and said he thought the side judge was off base . . . there was no butt lift according to him and the other side judge. That particular side judge has a reputation for being strict in terms of red-lighting. Regardless, I got the lift and was thrilled. I’ve been trying for this for a long time.
DL 1: 102.5 kg (225.5 lb) – three whites . . . played it very safe so as to save my strength for my next pull
DL 2: 112.5 kg (248 lb) – three whites . . . CAME UP SO FAST! Meet PR/state record. Pulled a glute muscle.
Got greedy.
DL 3: 117.5 kg (258.5 lb) – FAIL . . . glute was killing me . . . but the fact that I broke it off the ground means I’ll someday be able to lock it out.
damn you made that second deadlift look easy! your second (and first) squat looked really easy, too! no idea what happened with the third squat attempt it looked good to me (for whatever that is worth) i just wanted to scream ‘hips!!!’ at ya too.
really great lifting!
of course you are probably unhappy about a couple misses… but if you didn’t miss a couple you would be unhappy that you didn’t really test yourself so hmm.
you got a record for bench!! you really can’t suck at it, then :-p
will be cool to see how much stronger you get, though, to be sure!
your third deadlift is where i get stuck, too. except for me it happens with about 75kg. great lifting, snapper.
Congrats on a great meet Snap. Squats looked really good, I watched the 3rd a couple of times thinking maybe you leaned forward but didn’t really look like that happened.

And I love the pic of you in street clothes–look how tiny you are![/quote]
Another woman who sets all the records in the masters 105 lb category was saying the same thing at the meet: “look how tiny she is. Do I look that tiny?” I was thinking the same thing when I watched her. No way do I look that small… Oh except we weighed in at exactly the same weight!

Thanks so much. Everyone’s comments really mean a lot to me.
I’m sore today. Drove back to the meet to watch and ran the computer system for the meet organizer for awhile. Let’s just say that’s almost as stressful as doing a meet . . . taking everyone’s attempts, entering them into the system correctly, starting the clock on each lifter, logging the success or failure. It all moves very, very fast. I also got to speak to some quality sumo lifters, one of whom is willing to help me get switched over. I want to be done with conventional. Probably.
Nadia/Arachne: I look like a total beefcake in my gear. Not so flattering. Gear is supposed to be almost like a second skin, but there are different “fits.” And mine is essentially “competition fit,” which means it’s one size too small. Very evident in the thighs!
APW: I think my squat walkouts look pretty damn clean! Canting the racks in and practicing the three-step walkout has really helped me in this area.
No serious plans for training this week. I hope to get caught up on everyone else’s logs.
