What the hell kind of gym plays “Stroke”?!?!?!
Thats better than what mine was playing the other day, it was seriously going waaaay back.
We do deadlift a lot alike, have you tried the cue fill up your chest with air? I think it makes me sit down more (when I remember to actually do it) Try it now… makes me naturally arch my back. Although it sounds like you like the cranning. We havent heard how the shoes are working out? Or have you already talked about it?
EDIT the cranning comment didnt come out right, lol I meant it funny.

I’ve tried every trick in the book to deadlift with my hips lower. They don’t like it. So I’m calling a truce. My new shoes are awesome for squatting. I feel very stable and am looking forward to trying them with serious weight eventually.
Today.
Left hip flexor was tweaked for no good reason. But I squatted and it eased.
Squat
8/45
5/65
3/75
1/85
Box Squat
5/105
5/115
5/120
Reverse Band Squat
2/5/150
Seated GMs
3/8/65
Step-ups to high box . . . 4-second eccentric . . . almost like a pistol squat
3/8/15
Single-leg hammie curl
Seated wide-grip row with thumbless grip
Cuff rolls
Situps on decline bench with plate behind head
Crunch variation
Lots of walking planned for tonight’s Trick or Treating. Cardio in my book.
training is looking great as always. Has hubby made you a prowler yet? my company FINALLY sprung for iPhones, so I have a camera now, I’ll try to get a picture up. Clever boy should be able to reproduce it no problem. You don’t even need a pipe wrench. Although it will work longer if you weld 4 of the joints…
Nothing intelligent to add here, except that your arms have awesome definition.
Hope you were smart about the cardio and carbed up along the way ![]()
When you do standing GMs, how much do you bend your knees? Have you a video of you doing them, because seeing you would help me alot.

I train them Friday and will video for you. I definitely have soft knees. I must say I do not believe myself to be a poster child for this move and would welcome feedback as well.

LOL! Somehow I read this as, “Hope you were smart about the cardio and carbed up the wrong way” and my mind immediately went, “Mhm, Nutella.” I have problems.
Oooh, jump squats ATG…That is some good stuff right there! Must’ve felt soooo nice!
Nice work as always!
Forgot to log Wednesday’s super exciting and impressive bench training.
Flat bench
8/45
7/55
5/62
3/70
5/75
5/79
2/3/82
2/8/70
Random, I know.
Also did facepulls (lots), cuff rolls, brazilian split squats, planks, standing lat pulldowns, and situps on the ball.
I’m reading a really interesting book called Nutrient Timing. Not only about the type of food you should eat to maximize strength training performance but exactly WHEN you should eat it. I’ve definitely been making some mistakes.
Regarding your deadlift; why would you want to get your hips lower? They height they’re at look to me like a good leverage for you. You have long arms and are able to take advantage of that by having your hips up a bit higher. Should you lower your hips just because that’s what people say you should do? Every body has a natural point where their leverages are the best. What advantage do you think you would gain by getting your hips lower?
training looks good- dead session looked good
jump squats - Love these and ATG is the best way to do them
I do like your gym music too.

Good advice.
Reminds me of German’s post on form vs. technique, where form is the general way to do something, but technique is individual to the specific person. No one can know the “correct” technique to use except the lifter, because only the lifter can know what they need to connect the mind to the muscle.

Yep. And oh so timely since I deadlifted today. I think I do get hung up on wanting to be a pretty lifter and have laudable form. But in the sport of powerlifting, all that’s remembered is whether you got the lift or not. No one cares how it looks. If the form works for me and keeps me injury-free, it’s all good.
Today’s training.
RDL
8/45
5/95
Modified Sumo Deadlift
5/115
5/135
5/150
5/165 belt
5/175
5/180
All were done with a complete reset between reps. Much harder but kind of satisfying.
Wide-Stance Squat
5/45
5/65
5/85
3/8/100
1/115
1/125
That book has been on my wish list for a couple years now. I just like books like that.
Have you read stuff by John Berardi? I like to pimp him out haha. I first learned from his readings not just what to eat but when/why. And how to make good eating habits.
He used to be a regular contributor here and you can probably look up some old articles.

I am familiar with Berardi. Precision Nutrition? I have never read him, though. To be honest and perhaps surprisingly, I’ve never had the greatest interest in nutrition. But that’s changing.
I spent yesterday with my daughter at the state high school gymnastics championships. Our high school has extremely strong performers. But the show stopper was an elite gymnast from a rural high school who took first on all apparatus and overall with a 9.9 on floor and 9.9 on beam. You must understand that these scores are rarely seen. I was so moved by her performances.
Today’s training. Lots of volume for me.
*Flat bench . . . 3-second eccentric and exposive concentric
*Bentover barbell row . . . 3-second eccentric and exposive concentric
*Pecs on pec deck
*Concentration curl
*Lying DB tricep extension
*Ball situps
*Incline DB press . . . so glad G1 encouraged me to do these. I believe my stability is slightly increasing in my right shoulder
*Chinups . . . 30 of them . . . argh!
snap! …those chin ups man! your chest and upper body volume IS intense. I applaud you! i’m trying to do them same :{
I also tried jump squats after reading your log and was surprised at how hard it is not to fall! however i read some where they can increase your squat substantially so its more brusies for me.
wow, 30 chin-ups. i’m still working on 10x1…
with the hip height for deadlift thing… i’ve read different things on that… my current answer is to just use the trap bar ![]()

I’ve got the book and it’s more about fat loss than finding the perfect window which to get nutrients. So in that regard the word “precision” is a misnomer but for anyone wanting to get lean it’s a great system. If you have any specific questions let me know.
I agree about the hips. My hips are on the higher side and it works so far. I think as long as you’re not getting any pain then that’s half the battle.
