this is where the bar starts to move, so if you take and start in this position and sit back when you start so your scapula and the bar line up better and move the bar over the middle of your feet you will waste less energy and should be able to lift more…or so I have read and seen taught in several places. I think this should help with your hips also
Tate talks about form here and saying getting low like you do in sumo is correct. so hell I guess my info is correct its just for conventioanal or semi sumo
hope my rambaling helps you somehow
What is a smith machine leg press?
sorry I could nt resist- I was rocking out to them today with little man.
You are such a perfectionist, I like that allot.
nice work

I tend to agree with this. Sit back and drag it up the shins. Its more of a mental image than physical, but you may bump the way up. Especially conventional.
Not advocating starting with the bar against the shin. Definately mid-foot. Its just a way to get the bar path optimized with the scapula as damutt mentioned, and it makes you sit back.
hey wow. that is good news about your hamstring. think how much stronger your squats and deads will be once you bring it up ![]()
You make me wonder whether I can hamstring curl at all. Haven’t tried that in YEARS.

I avoid lunges because I have fused toes. But I have no excuse for not trying these, I suppose. Maybe you could give me a vid?

Thanks for all that. It doesn’t matter how much weight is on the bar. Or whether I pull conventional or sumo. My body instinctively pulls with a high hip position. I’ve decided that as long as I keep a neutral spine, I’m going to pull from my optimized position of strength. Regardless of whether it’s pretty or not.

I lie under the machine and press the bar up with my feet. I can video usage if you like. Normal leg press machines hurt my back because it’s locked into a position that usually isn’t optimal for me. With the smith, I can adjust my position under the bar.

I’ve long struggled with my right hammie. I can curl when both legs work together. Separately, the right one does zilch.
That smith machine leg press sounds interesting.

It is. I unrack the bar with my feet and do the presses but am unable to rerack so I have to lower it all the way down to the bottom safeties. A serious stretch. I think the position/movement is a bit pornographic.

Sounds interesting!

Ahh, no. My toes are not fused to each other! The joints within two of my toes down to the ball of my foot are fused. Makes lunging nearly impossible, which is strangely convenient since I’ve always hated lunges.
Funny thing is that my brother was born with a few partially webbed toes on both feet. My parents used to tell him that he was like Aquaman. Remember him from the Saturday morning Superfriends?
Video of leg presses in the Smith, eh? What a surprise. If nothing else, men are predictable.
Just returned from the doctor’s office. Stitches for my son. Classmate cut his finger with scissors down to the tendon. And this is middle school.

Up: I must look into the primrose oil. Sorry to be confusing you. I confuse myself. So you’re not alone.
Today I dialed back the weights and tried to implement some advice I’ve received from a few of you to help build base strength and grow gigantic muscles.
Squat
5/45
5/65
5/85
3/8/95
20/45
Have I mentioned that anything more than 5 reps kills me?
Standing GMs
3/8/80
DB Step-ups . . . haven’t done these in years . . . done very slow to drag out the pain
3/8/15
Reverse Hypers with 10-lb. DB between feet
3/8
Good Girl/Bad Girl
3/8/95
Smith Machine Leg Press . . . haven’t done these in years either
3/8/plate on each side
EDIT
Forgot that I also did single leg plate-loaded hamstring curl. The weird thing is that my right hamstring cannot curl any weight. So I did 3/8 with an unloaded machine.[/quote]
That which doesn’t kills us can only make us stronger!!!
I find what I’d benefit from the most is what I hate the most…
Primrose? Looking for Omega-3, fish-oil substitutes? Flax, Borage, Krill…
Hemp hearts are a great omega 3, amino and vitamin and rich in protein…also gluten free
