It's a Dog's life

I keep my elbows close with any bench press/push up. Seems to help my shoulders. But I did’t have the injury you had so my advice is probly useless.

Thanks ecogenx - that’s one of the numerous items in my bench press mantra.

205# 3x3 I think I need to drop the weight and work the form on these.

I dunno about that. You’ve become such a strong chinner that this may be the right weight for you to use. A little leg drive is okay so long as you’re not doing bent over cleans…

Well - here is my last set at 205. I felt like I wasn’t keeping my back tight and wasn’t quite getting the bar high enough. What do you guys think?

Takin’ today, tomorrow & thursday as recovery days prior to Friday’s long ride. I’ll be taking the road option for the second half of the ride.

That is a sharp looking map. Enjoy the ride.

The angle makes it hard to judge, Soldog, and not all of your body is in the picture, but I would be inclined to agree with you on both the back and the bar movement. Also, it appears that while you are resetting your hands with each rep, you are not resetting your back.

You want to be pulling the bar forcefully into your upper abdomen region, and I don’t see that happening. (Some apparent left/right imbalance may indicate that, too.) I think this is the kind of exercise you want to be working for higher reps than just three, anyway, because of the quick form breakdown at that level. I am sure if you take the weight down you will be back up to it with crisp form in a few months.

First, thanks for the great view of your backside. I go more to the waist on bent rows, may be a different exercise. At the end of the lift you look like you’re taking your chest, the little hitch, to the bar to finish. I’d lower the weight and work on form.

You are quite welcome Hel…

I tried three different angles - none good. Posted that one because it was last set.

I’ll take Geech and your advice. Drop the weight and up the reps. I was pulling to my lower chest so I’ll move that towards my waist.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for the video and the comments, I learned some things.

Your bike rides are awesome.I tip my hat to you brother.I don’t care how much weight is pushed around by some of the crew.Your bike rides are right at the top with’em!!!

This sounds like the way I do bent over rows. I might go a bit higher than to the waist. Great pics soldog, you look leaner.

Thanks Jimmy - that means a lot to me but I still gotta get stronger.

The ride starts at 10 tomorrow forcast is low 50’s and 30% chance of rain - at least I won’t overheat.

Soldog, enjoy the ride today. Your progress pictures are amazing. Your improvement in a year has been very impressive. Based on your attitude, willingness to try new things, and your well thought out plans, you will see even more changes in the next year. I can’t wait to see the pictures and measurements next September.

5.5 hours total time
4 hours ride time
3100 total feet of elevation gain
I am completely beat.

The map

I have no writing inspiration tonight - maybe tomorrow.

You’re hooked now. Got the whole winter to plan your destiny. Most people can’t do four hour on the flats. You’ll be hell on wheels next year Bro.

I’d agree with that from what I could tell. I’ve taken the BO BB Rows right out of my routine for now. Even when I lowered the weight they just didn’t feel right. I think it’s just a bad leverage for me.

I liked the way you started those from a dead stop. Is that a Pendlay row?

An emergency beer infusion is required here!

Stand back!

That is some serious cardio. My lungs are hurting just looking at the map. That would be outstanding at sea level but at altitude amazing. Sure you’re not part Kenyan?

Well, It’s my approximation of one based on what I’ve read. I went back and looked at the set I did at 135# and it looked a lot better. These feel good to me and I can really feel it in my arms and back.
