Military guys are often cautious, for obvious reasons. But you’ve got to realize that you can’t put weapons in the hands of terrorists. Its that simple.
Is the conservative stance of the military sanity or a tacit aknowledgement that the military does not need to be hawkish on this one. Letting the Israelis lead the charge instead also can make sense. The military gets to look like they didn’t want to get involved. Plus they have an improved situation in Iraq to protect.
Instead they get to sit back, let the Israelis strike, then wait and see if the Iranians want to get stupid. If the Iranians do get stupid then the US can come in and do the follow up.
