Islam's Problem With Democracy

No Lixy the west did not cause the destruction of the Bimayan Buddhas. Muslim bigotry, Muslim predjudice, Muslim disrespect for other religions is what destroyed the Bimayan Buddhas. The Buddhas were destroyed because this is what happens when people who practice the one and only true word of god encounter other faiths.

Sifu, pay a little bit of attention here. I never blamed the destruction of the Buddhas on anyone but the ones that actually financed and put in explosives. I added that it might help if the West didn’t support Musharraf and the Al-Sauds.

You ignored both statements and threw in a strawman.[/quote]

Lixy I did read it. You didn’t directly blame them you just threw the west in there to make it sound like the west was to blame.

You are in denial Lixy. The Imperialism that you blame for all the problems is not just exclusively directed at the Islamic world. There are other groups who face the same issues and worse without putting bombs on trains and buses.

The Bimayan Buddhas showed how a genuinely peaceful religion (Buddhism) handles lifes challenges. Noone died over it. Because Buddhists are conditioned to be peaceful by their religion.

The Danish cartoons showed how Islam handles lifes challenges. People died over a couple of silly cartoons and more killing has been threatened.

As soon as I saw the story about the cartoons the first thing that went through my head was someone is going to die over this. Lixy you must admit that there is something terribly wrong when killing is a predictable outcome for even the most minor of annoyances with one religion, while another major religion watches one of it’s most significant holysites destroyed without even a wimper.

I agree.

Yeah, where’s this “voice of the people” that will suddenly arise and free the muslims from the “evil” dictators and Royal families, when the only voice that is seen and heard is one of hatred, violence and intolerance?

That statement struck a chord. Suffering is probably the only major tenet in Buddhism. We suffer, period. When we let go of this suffering, we are in place to receive the opportunity of enlightenment.

People die. Places can be rebuilt. Nothing is worth suffering an agony for a transient action. That is why there is no whimper from Buddhists wrt Tibet’s occupation, destruction of it’s heritage and China’s usurpation of the process of finding the next Dalai Lama, when this current example of His Holiness dies.

I find great peace in the teachings that Buddhists make themselves.
