And by ignoring the role that personal agency has in the Islamic community’s adoption of these ideas and sheltering of its adherents, you are turning a blind eye to the clear source of Islamist terrorist attacks.
Ignoring the role of ideology in the creation of terrorist Islamists is nonsensical. The IRA/UVF weren’t created by the British government, nor are the dozens of home grown Salafiist extremist groups.
The UK intelligence forces are the victims of their own success. Their suppression of 100’s of plots since 7/7 and before has led to the adoption of these low-tech (and horrific) techniques.
It reveals that would be ISIS agents can’t access hardware and explosives that the continental attacks have had as easily, but they are able to carry out a brutal attack using something you cannot control adequately.
Moreover, it has Brits convinced that the threat isn’t as widespread as it actually is. The relative paucity of attacks since 7/7 is NOT indicative of a minor problem, it is indicative of a major problem being well managed.
But if the tactics shift wholesale into this type of lone-wolf vehicular attack, then it will become that much more unmanageable.
They aren’t though. You can’t simply arrest people for being anti-government and it is already a criminal offence to recruit for a terrorist organisation.
Extremist mosques have been closed, but the problem requires a level of co-operation among the Sunni Muslim community that is not forthcoming.
I fail to see your policy prescription here. The root cause is ideological, and if you can show me a way to eliminate that (barring Pat’s Blood and Thunder approach) I will nominate you for a Nobel peace prize.
The problem is our government and not some Akbar in Birmingham.
We have consistently been on the wrong side of every conflict and consistently funded militant Islamic fundamentalist groups for decades to help our agenda and cause and consistently been in bed with the countries responsible for incubating these groups.
Do you think our secret service and government were unaware of what Choudry was preaching, do you really think that?
They want to tap your phone and search our orifices but they don’t want to ask Saudi why they flew planes into the WTC buildings. Makes no sense to me.
Personally the ratio of Muslims I know that are peaceful compared to Christians I know that are peaceful supports the shit out of the statement.
Not a huge sample size, but you’d do well to accept that people aren’t going to brand Islam a religion of terror when they know a lot of peace loving Muslims.
This is true of liberal whites living in Racial bubbles who only come in contact with the 0.1% of muslims who are competent and compatible with Western civilization
Which would be a reasonable explanation if you didn’t like Muslims. Fortunately, a very large majority of Americans don’t have that experience, hence so many of them not being on the RajTrain.
Threat of terror has great ramifications throughout society - TSA, Mass surveillance, etc.
Secondly it’s also the amount of terror attacks relative to their representation in the population. Muslims are only 0.9% of the population and we are guaranteed to experience a new Islamic terror attack at least annually in America.
If that number were 0 or very close to it how many terror attacks would occur? Notice there are no Islamic terror attacks in Japan
