Islam in a Nutshell

Question…which is linked to the other one I posed: How come women can’t drive in Saudi Arabia. Where’s it say that in the Koran? Like there were cars back then anyway! I thought Mohammad brought up women’s standard of livng back in the day. Why do these regimes like the Saudis and Taliban keep women down? Where are the texts used to justify such abuse?

So if one wants to judge Islam, he simply cannot do it through judging a political entity or Muslim country or even an individual. He has to go back to the Qur’an and the Sunnah. [/quote]

Allow me quote to quote a bigot who strongly disagrees with that assertion;

Excuse me, but some of us so-called “bigots” would like to have an intellectual discussion about Islam.

Yeah, how about Musharraf (US ally) and the drone attacks are causing terrorism in Pakistan. Now, the so-called Islamist government Lixy praised is doing way more dammage to the Taliban (which I do not oppose btw, just making a point) and Pakistan and you do not hear a peep about them “causing terrorism”. Why is that?

And what I meant by “aren’t Wahabbis Islamic?” was you can blame the terror problem on US backed Wahabbis in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and try to distance yourself from the truth: They’re Islamic Fundamentalists whether you agree with them or not and regardless of who funds them.

Some people need a boogey man to help them sleep at night, I guess.

The same twisted assed logic Bin Laden used to justify attacks on civilian targets btw.

Precisions for this thread’s bigot en chef:

  • I wrote how many children did you kill today?. And yes, the US military is in the business of killing children. You don’t send your military to the other side of the globe (on a blatantly false doomsday pretext) to bomb and invade a country which has been in shambles, and expect to wash off the pile of innocents corpses as self-defense. That’s absurd!

And screw anyone in the US military! Heck, screw anyone in any military force who trades in his common sense and becomes property of the government!

  • I must have explained the context of the “slut” statement enough times. I’ll link to the original thread so that people can see it context and make up their own mind about where I stand on that event.
  • An innocent is NEVER a fair target. I bring up the federal taxes and the way they’re used to kill and terrorize innocents, so that Americans taxpayers take their responsabilities and stop electing murderous scumbags. Nothing more, nothing less.

And before you say that I am somehow responsible for 9/11 simply because I am a Muslim, I’ll remind you that not a penny of my money was used in that operation. Some of my money is used by the Moroccan government to occupy the Western Sahara or the Swedish governemnt to oppress minority groups (the Sami, Roma, etc). Feel free to blame me for that. But not a penny of mine is used to blow up trains or bring down buildings. I am not even remotely connected to any of those groups, and all I do is condemn them. I do think some of their grievances are legitimate (i.e: get troops out of their country) but that’s about it.

  • The Sunnah does not override the Quran in my opinion. And there are plenty of hadiths around that do not pass the common sense test as far as I’m concerned. So yes, I minimize the words of the prophet in favor of the word of God. I repeat: Mohamed was a man! And I believe many statements that are attributed to him, are pure fabrications.

  • Muslim leaders are to be chosen by the people, and major decisions have to be taken by consultation. Shura is repeatidely praised in the Quran.

  • You fail to notice that being a Muslim does not at all preclude one from being oppressed by your so-called majority.

  • It is not, nor has it ever been easy to prove who is correct or who isn’t. But it should be evident that killing innocent people is not a doctrine of Islam, despite what you have been trying to claim by quoting things out of context on so many occasions. Nor is it OK to punish rape victims. etc.

  • Is a suicide bombing somehow more morally outrageous that a bombing? I can’t help but feel such a “survey” is loaded in the first place. More importantly, wasn’t it an online poll?

“* An innocent is NEVER a fair target. I bring up the federal taxes and the way they’re used to kill and terrorize innocents, so that Americans taxpayers take their responsabilities and stop electing murderous scumbags. Nothing more, nothing less.”

So that’s all our tax dollars are used for? How would one go about NOT paying taxes?

Our leaders are murderous scumbags?

If Muslim leaders “are chosen by people and major decisions have to be taken by consultation”, maybe Muslims shouldn’t chose murderous scumbags as leaders.

And if we bring up genocide in Sudan or Tibet or Chechnia you say, “Well, it’s ok because they can do what they want to their own people” ??!! or “At least they don’t have military bases all around the world” as if genocide is being committed in US bases in countries who gave us permission to build there.

I believe a suicide bombing is morally outrageous but what is more outrageous is starting a thread everytime one happened in Iraq.

Chushin man, lets not allow this to turn into a game of ‘la la la I can’t hear you’

Huh? What’d you say?

Don’t worry; I’m done screwing around in that way.

But I’m just as done responding to that clown and his name-calling. (Actually, I kind of like “Bigot en Chef” – my wife will be pleased to know that I can finally cook!)

And, in case you haven’t noticed, he’s self-admitedly been ignoring plenty of folks here for a long time now, so it seems quite reasonable to do the same to him.

To be completely honest, I feel like I’ve exorcised a demon of sorts with this decision, and look forward to positive, productive, and civil discussions with you, Shoebolt and others.

Cheers.

So you going to be doing all the cooking for us CEBOB’s now?

GKhan and Chushin - did we ever get any answers on this thread - didn’t want to read a lot of nonsense if I didn’t have to . . .seemed like yusef was going to be a good source of info - but haven’t seen anything come of that . . . .
