Is TRT Safe for a 67 Y/O Man?

My dad is 67 years old. Although he is active…(doesn’t want to retire and works as an engineer which means he is pretty much on his feet most of the time.
He’s been feeling his age lately and usually says “im getting old” or “im an old man now”.
He hasnt done BW yet but im pretty sure his testosterone levels arent going to be that impressive at 67.

So im wondering…Would TRT be safe for someone that advanced in age?

Yes but good luck at getting someone to properly administer it

Why’d u say that?

Truth is testosterone probably makes a 67 year old feel just as good as a 37 year old and if the medical community would treat these cases men would feel much better, younger and would be healthier overall into their old age.

Most doctors consider the decline in testosterone with age to be “normal” and my guess is many will refuse to treat suboptimal test levels because it’s “normal”

Is it safe for a 67YO to have low testosterone? NO!

OK. Since doctors here arent going to put him on TRT, i want to do this for my dad. I am EXTREMELY worried though. Naturally, i don’t want there to be any complications. And logic tells that at 67, there are way more chances of there being complications than at…say my age…29. But i could be wrong.

How can I go about this SAFELY? Do i follow the usual protocol on TRT that is here? I would really appreciate your expertise on this.

Safely? Means he has to do all the leg work that everyone else here has to do. LABS! You don’t even know what his problems are at this point…lots of things make people feel run down and old.

I’m asking if there are any extra precautions i should take. I know BW is essential stuff.

Im thinking:

Test E @ 200 mg /week

HCG @ 1000 iu /week

Arimidex @ 1mg /week

Blood Work before TRT and 6 months into TRT

The above if the usual TRT protocol… But does it apply to someone who is 67 y/o??
Anything else i should be doing? Any extra precautions i should be taking?

Yes the precautions you should be taking include getting your head out of your ass and taking your dad to see an actual real live doctor

YOU’RE MISSING THE POINT!

TRT is for people DIAGNOSED with hypogonadism…you’re father HAS NOT been diagnosed with anything. You can’t just look at someone and diagnose this condition. Maybe his T levels are fine (doubtful but you don’t know until you look) and it something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT causing his symptoms. Maybe is he has a whole bunch of things going on and TRT is the least of his worries. Who knows? Certainly not me having just read the very limited history you gave here.

Your question just isn’t something anyone here can answer responsibly based on what little information you gave or know about your father and there’s nothing you can say that substitutes for a good clinical exam by licensed physician.

You want safely…father needs to go to the doctor and have a physical exam, blood work needs to be done and then and only then IF he is hypogonadal would I worry about a TRT protocol.

I think the best advice has already been posted. Get your dad to visit the doctors for blood work and then evaluate. Be smart about it and don’t have tunnel vision.

A doctor WILL NOT tell him how to do a proper TRT if he is not treating him with TRT!! That should be common sense! Furthermore, a doctor WILL NOT treat him with TRT if according to the doctor, my dad’s testosterone level is NORMAL! According to the lab 129-767 ng/dL is normal for a male that is over 50.

My question is not “Based on my dad’s complaint that he is feeling old, should i treat him with TRT?”

THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM ASKING.

I AM ASKING…

Are there any extra precautions that a 67 y/o should take when running TRT? PERIOD!

I AM STILL RESEARCHING and i am trying to gather as much information as i can regarding TRT. I assume this is a place for that.

If the only advice you can give is to go to a doctor…then what is the point of this forum?!?

AGAIN…I am not asking “why my dad feels the way he does?”

I am well aware that there could be many other reasons besides low test for him to feel that way. The answer to THAT question, i will get from the doctor.

The answer to my question is what i would have gotten from a sticky “TRT for over 60 y/o men”…had there been one.

Very articulate

Hey free sorry your getting so much negative responses some people are just assholes, u have 3 options, hunt down a doc that will do it, pay a lot of money to an anti ageing clinic or do it yourself, mens test drops 2% a year from age 30 and is nearly all gone by 60 hence why most over 65 have little to know muscle, estrogen also goes up as t goes down as we age so trt protocal for over 60 may not be that of a 29 year old, hcg prob not needed just keep t up n estrogen in check, best of luck with it im trying to get my Dad to look into it also, self administration should be the last resort but if the only option go for it just make damn sure its done right…check out allthingsmale forum you will get responses from trt expert members.

Being an asshole = swaying someone from randomly treating symptoms that could comprise about 100+ different illnesses? Since your entire response is an incoherent mess of run-on sentences, I am going to just assume you too have your head up your ass and not really put much stock in what you actually said.

OP has fixated himself on a diagnosis of hypogonadism for his father. Why? We can only speculate. But it is extremely narrow minded and honestly, if the OP is that daft, I would not recommend him to be involved at any point in the diagnosis and treatment process other than a supportive observer. He does not appear to lack the mental capacity to be anything other than a cheerleader at this point.

I mean, when 100% of the responses involve some form of “take your dad to a real doctor and quit trying to pretend that you stayed the night at Holiday Inn Express last night” and you are still arguing against that, you have to think at some point the problem is with you and not with everyone else.

That’s what COMMON SENSE would tell you anyway.

This genius advice coming from a guy who had T levels at 600+ but started TRT “just for the heck of it”…idiotic advice from an iditoic member

Yeah check out all things male, if you want to suck on the Dr. Crisler tit…not too many people would put much stock into the word of a CONVINCTED FELON like Crisler, but he has gotten some guys to obviously drink the kool-aid…if that is the route you wanna go, by all means enjoy your time there…

Yeah he should make sure son is sane.

On a more serious note check out the stickies all the recommended blood work is there. Get the necessary blood work first. If something comes up and doctors not willing to do anything look for another doctor. Last thing you want to do is put him on TRT when he does not need it.

VTballa34, you should get your estrogen levels checked buddy, unless of course you like being a bitch.

Wrong!!

Being an asshole = swaying someone into knocking you out.

Hmmmm lets see… A prominent DOCTOR who is a “known” expert in the subject and who actually helped tons of ppl VS. a troll who says stuff like “You (too) have your head out of your ass”. “He does not appear to lack the mental capacity to be anything other than a cheerleader at this point”. “quit trying to pretend that you stayed the night at Holiday Inn Express last night”. “idiotic advice from an iditoic member”. “Yeah check out all things male, if you want to suck on the Dr. Crisler tit”.

Wow! this is so confusing…who should i pick? who should i pick??

Dr. Crisler was convicted of a crime that has NOTHING to do with his expertise.
Mike Tyson was convicted of rape but he was the best in his field…boxing. If i were to step in the ring with Mike, I would NOT not “put much stock” into the fight because he is a “convicted felon”
That comment alone shows your lack of intelligence.

So Bambi, if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

For the adult members whose IQs are above room temperature…try constructive criticism. And before you do that, try to take time to “understand” the question being asked and then if you can, and only if you can, answer it. That requires…
a) knowledge of the subject
b) an ability to pass that knowledge (explain)
c) an ability to be coherent

Look I’m not here to argue. I think what most of us are saying is you’re asking the wrong question.

Strictly answering your question…No, a healthy 67 year old who only has low T has no special precautions.

That said, MOST 67 year old men have other comorbities that COULD affect TRT. So as I said earlier no one can really answer that question responsibly because the answer needs to be specific for the 67 year old. Some 67 year olds will need to be concerned and some will not…depends on their other health issues.

As an aside my 70 year old father-in-law had prostate cancer a few years ago so he had hormones measured. His measured tT at 68 was 500. He was always a thin, healthy guy who probably was in the upper range in 30’s naturally. No thyroid issues or any other issues and even he is feeling his age. While most 67 year olds will be low range or hypo some won’t.
