Thread title says it all. I have my own personal views as well as some fun stories about it, but I want to hear what you guys have to say first.
No. The flag in itself isn’t. The way it is sometimes used is and creates a negative connotation in the minds of people.

No, it is not inherently racist. Yes, racism is often attached to it and many of the original fliers of this flag were indeed racist but they did not fly the flag to reassure “white supremacy” in their own mind like some people do today.
If you ask me, people who need to attach symbols to white supremacy only need it because they have no other way to show it: “Look at me I am better than you. I have a swastika tattoo on my neck.”
This is not to say people who fly the Confederate Flag are racists. It is after all a symbol of Southern Independence and self determination.
If you were flying it on your plantation over a century ago what you were really saying was, “Lincoln, go fuck yourself.”
That’s okay in my book.

I don’t think so, but I can understand how the decendents of slavery might feel otherwise. Also, all those pictures of Klansmen waving the flag don’t help. So while all my ancestors of that generation on both sides of the family did fight for the south, I don’t wear or fly the flag.
