Kevin Durand would be perfectin so many ways except for box office appeal.

He even speaks French, just like Reacher (his second language)

Also, Reacher is described as not being very handsome, but with a certain charm all his own anyway…Durand would work there too.

I included a pic of him with two toher actors to show his height.
Thing is, Durand is one of the most versatile actors out there at the moment and criminally underrated. He’s done some pretty high profile roles (most of them in Russell Crowe movies), but he’s stuck in casting limbo: his acting ability keeps him from being cast as henchmen but he’s also confined to character roles (and Reacher is very much a character role, but the popularity of the books makes Hollywood think they need to cast a ‘face’ when the movie would sell just on the virtue of being a Jack Reacher movie).

He reminds me a lot of Ron Perlman, not in looks, but in how his career seems to be following a similar path.

Russian Trailer that’s been leaked…

Basically looks like Ethan Hunt as Tom Cruise…as Jack Reacher…damn shame. Will be generic stuff. Will watch for free…haha.

Guaranteed Cruise will throw a scene in the movie where he will be running to or away from something/someone utilizing his impeccable sprinting form… it’s his damn signature move
Yeap. That’s the general idea.

It would be so funny if he runs in the movie at all as it’s mentioned three or four times that Reacher can’t really run very well at all.

It’d be like if in a new book or movie Indiana Jones has a pet snake or in the next James Bond movie he stopped drinking booze.

I can guarantee you that there will be at least one freaking sprinting scene. At least ONE. It’s TOM Fucking Cruise after all. He needs to run somewhere!

Kevin Durand is awesome. That would have been a great choice. Hell, he would have been a good Highlander too! (they ended up going with Ryan Reynolds)
Now that you mention it, Durand would make an amazing Kurgan.
I think so too, especially if he can do a decent Russian accent. I don’t even know if they have casted someone for The Kurgan or Ramirez yet, but I don’t expect too much from this remake, which sucks. Highlander had great potential and it really does deserve a reboot since the creators could never quite figure out what they ultimately wanted the story to be (I think The Prize has changed like 5 times over the course of the movies and show). I just read that the woman who wrote the screenplay for Twilight is writing the script and the director is the guy from Fast and Furious (the fourth one, not the first) for this remake so I expect pure shit.

ooh, you are right! Good call!

Official trailer:
roybot wrote:
Cruise looks massive. The extras in the background are tiny compared to him.
LOR CGI

They even have him driving a car…in the books it’s mentioned two or three times that Reacher is actually a poor driver because he’s had so little experience.

I’ve only read one Reacher novel, but what I remember the guy is really big and badass.

Not Tom Criuse.

TC would be more like it.

(where is my ham?)

Ray Stevenson or maybe even Rory McCann (‘the Hound’ from GoT) would have made good jack Reachers, both under-rated actors too imho.

Not a 5’ tall smurf twat.

DEEP SIGH This movie…just…they did it wrong. Ugh.

Ah well, I expected a sprinting scene but I guess they decided to have him drive a car instead.

And Tommy’s voice as JR’s sounds so wrong to me. Dang it.

The trailer looks good though. The scene at the end made me smile since we’ve been having a discussion in the combat forum about 6 v 1 in a street fight.

Nah.

I always pictured Reacher as a tall, strong, muscular Aryan looking man. Shit.

I guess Dolf Lundgreen is too old for the role. What about Dwayne Johnson with a wig and contact lenses? Or some unknown scandinavian actor?

Or do they just want Tom Cruise to sprint somewhere?
Lundgren would actually be perfect. Reacher is not a young buck. In the novels he was born in 1960, which makes him 42, where as Lundgren is 54, most actors play roles that are ten years younger than they are.

At 00:45 in the official trailer Cruise wraps his right hand around the knob of the shifter. His hand is in an emmaculate, pristine condition without one scar or scratch on it.

I would think that someone who has knocked out thousands of teeth and broken hundreds of jaw bones would have at least one small blemish on his right (punching) hand.

I hope this film is going to be a bigger flop than Madonnas last LP, just so Hollywood finally gets the message that we’re not all as stupid as they would like to think. I myself will only watch this one for free.

I won’t see this in the theater…not out of some fanboy boycott thing, but I just have no desire to see a thriller with Tom Cruise in it. I think I’ve only seen two Tom Cruise movies in the theater…maybe three. I also only get to about three or four movies a year now anyway…this won’t be one of them.

This movie is sort of like Starship Troopers where the only thing in common with the book is the names.

I will watch it when it comes out on HBO…but I know it’ll be weird to watch a typical pot bolier thriller and every once in a while I’ll hear someone in the movie say “Jack Reacher” and my ears will prick up.

Ha…I just said “prick up” ina thread about Tom Cruise.

Ha…I just said “prick up” ina thread about Tom Cruise.

Yep, the very same thread in which you used the word “Fanboy”

Should we be getting second thoughts about the background reasoning behind your thread?

He sprints into a bad guy in the trailer, if that counts. I’ve noticed that Cruise likes to put his hobbies into his movies whenever possible: he’s a keen race car driver IRL, likes to rock climb
(he always finds an excuse to climb a mountain or a tall building, making sure that the knows it was him and not a stuntmam), and presumably likes to jog in the park on a Sunday morn judging by his penchant for running around like a diarrhea-crazed madman.

Hahaha! Fucking awesome. I especially loved that ‘‘sprinting into a bad guy’’ line. Lol.

So as well as sprinting, we’ll have him climbing stuff too. Great.
