Is Social Media Causing Lifting Injuries?

I think that the kid wouldnt have done that if he had not seen it being done, but very likely would have done something else just as dumb.

So theres some mitigation involved there. Its like the modern version of watching Eval Kneval jump a fleet of school busses then trying something similar on your Huffy. Timmy lands the jump, but Bobby does an endo and bashes all of his teeth out.

He forgot to put the bands on the SSB.

You know, I see the few geared powerlifters we have at at my gym do almost just as silly of lifts on a regular basis.

It is a complete mystery how much they are even lifting most of the time. Blue reverse bands, with 90 lbs of chains on each side, on some weird ass camber bar.

If I remember right (and I’m old, so maybe I don’t), Mr. Rogers was a killer in WW2.

Anyway, to the point, I actually think it’s the lack of broad athletic backgrounds that are getting people hurt. Folks are less physical now than before, as we know, but even when kids do play sports they specialize in one year-round from an early age. That’s starting to show up in at least two papers I’m aware of as a predictor for common sports injuries like torn ACLs.

In this video, if he’d had an athletic history, perhaps he either would have had more stability to handle the stupid thing he was doing or he would have known enough to just not do it.

I was actually going to comment about this but I wanted to google it first; turns out this was some nonsense rumor but it had me believing in it until earlier today lol.

Well, damn it! I can never unsee that. I preferred a world where Mr. Rogers had a body count

You and me both buddy.
I was literally going to post “I liked the Mr. Rogers that was dropping bodies more” earlier :joy:

Iirc, Mr. Rodgers was a presbyterian minister. Lots of rumors haha.

Also, he claimed holding the same weight (143 lbs) for a 30 year period. I believe he even claimed that he weighed himself every day for that period and didn’t deviate from that weight. That’s pretty impressive Imo.

He was also an avid swimmer. Like 2 hrs./day every morning for his entire adult life. (Or something).

Yep, I think the claim he made was that he weighed himself daily after swimming and was 143 lbs every day for over 30 years. IDK, I don’t really see Mr Rodgers being one to lie, but that’s quite the feat.

Is it a lie if you believe it?

If I believe it or he believed it? The later I’d say no.

There is actually a song to illustrate this. For some reason there always is a song by Freak Kitchen about any weird life circumstance.

No. Not really no.

For your perusal.
