I just had my first raw eggs. I mixed them up in the blender with some milk, vanilla extract, and a dash of cinnamon like Sean said. It tasted great. It was a little watery though; I probably should have left out the milk. I just ordered some protein powder so I’ll mix it with that from now on. If I never post here again, don’t eat raw eggs!
Never had eggs raw before, but if you all have had favorable experiences and the risk is minimal, I might give it a go. I swear to god I’m going to play “Eye of the Tiger” while chugging it.
I have 3 raw eggs mixed with chocolate protein powder and milk every day, never been sick.
Hey, I skipped to the end of the thread, so I hope I’m not repeating:
The issue with raw eggs is salmonella. Boiling them kills it.
You can flash boil multiple eggs at a time, for just a few seconds: long enough to kill salmonella, but not long enough to cook (denature) anything.
Just do 12 eggs at a time, get a big pot boiling, dunk the carton in for a few seconds: safe (nearly) raw eggs.

That last part confused me…
Anyways I’m gonna start taking some raw eggs(More for convenience than anything as I don’t have much time on my hands lately).
What minor side effects did you guys notice when you started thaking them…? Upset stomachs for a few days? Cases of the shits?
Hey guys n gals, first post here. About the 1/30k salmonella thing, I think the other poster got it wrong in saying that he would eventually get salmonella in certain amount of years. I believe it would be every egg you eat has a 1/30k chance of being a salmonella egg. Then the next egg would still have that 1/30k chance.
Also, in the book Catching Fire Richard Wrangham writes about the digestibility of the protein in cooked vs raw eggs. The data he presents are that raw egg consumption leads to about 65% egg PRO digested, while cooked egg PRO is 91-94%.(Healthy subjects) I was going to end this by saying ‘food for thought’ but I’d rather not do that on my first post and risk the animus of all the thread contributors, just for a shitty pun.
P.S. I eat many of my eggs raw out of convenience, but if I have the time I will cook em over easy.
Sorry for beating a dead horse, but avidin (the biotin scavenger found in raw egg white) is only active if uncooked. Only eating raw egg whites can lead to biotin deficiency at about 20 egg whites. (Assuming that you don’t eat yolks or biotin supps.) I don’t think anyone on this site does that.
And if there’s a 1/30k risk of salmonella per egg, eating 20974 (Or a dozen a day for close to five years) leads to a 50% risk of cathing salmonella. But H4M’s post at the bottom of this thread Forums - T Nation - The World's Trusted Community for Elite Fitness adresses that risk quite well.
BTW: Yolks contain some of the active ingredients (or their precursors) in Alpha-GPC and Power Drive. Eat them.
Im not gonna read this thread. just gonna say, don’t buy eggs you are going to eat raw from some cheap market. lean towards cage-free chicken eggs which have a much lesser chance of salmonella. i was eating a bunch of raw eggs a day for over a year and all was working fine. Switched to buying eggs from said cheapass market. got salmonella within a month. Not pleasant.

It was just a dumb joke. I’ve been drinking raw eggs since then with no problems, but I would rather fry them. This is how I do it:
Odds of getting salmonella are getting quite a bit worse.

You mean the odds are getting BETTER.
Check your eggs for the recalled batches everyone. Especially if youre a senior citizen, toddler, or HIV/AIDS patient.

While on the topic of eggs, I’m hoping you guys can help me with something.
I have high cholesterol inherited from both of my parents. The doctor (general practitioner) told me to cut down on certain foods, eggs being one of them. Now, I know that consuming high cholesterol foods does not mean blood cholesterol will rise. But that doctor is still in the back on my mind whispering that I should cut back on the eggs. The doctor also gave me some list with a bunch of things I should stay away from. It looked like something copied from the pages of a 1980s textbook.
So is this doctor most likely out of touch with recent nutrition studies and the eggs will be fine?
What are your thoughts on eating egg whites only and getting rid of those cholesterol filled yolks?[/quote]
I also used to have high cholestrol and the doctore gave me the same reply, which I followed…for a while. Now I usually just do a couple or 3 hard boil eggs and increase my fiber intake (read: lots of fiberous vegetables) and cut down a lot on trans fat (except the ocassional fast food) and my cholestrol lvl have been normal for the least few chk up.

I’m really not worried about that very much. For one thing, my brand isn’t on the list of companies that the eggs were recalled by…for another, as I’ve already mentioned, I’ll bet I’m all but immune to salmonella from all the trace amounts I’ve consumed over the years in raw eggs. Also, this:
Hey, if nobody’s dying, what’s the big deal? Lol. Partially kidding.
