Is It Just Me Feeling Small Here?

^ This is also why I come to this site.

Complete bullshit. Much like dog warning signs or house security system signs, your best defense is to avoid confrontation in the first place. I haven’t had anyone even try to start a fight with me since freshmen year of college. Mind you, I actually trained in martial arts and boxing so this is not coming from someone who simply can not defend himself.
It isn’t COMPLETE bullshit. It all depends…if you fight a guy smaller than you…I’m not talking about 150lb guys here. I’m talking 220lbs here, skilled boxer who does it day in and day out. You will obviosuly get murked no matter your previous training. Due to the fact that you are a bodybuilder and have no desire to fight. Compare that same 220lb guy who is not skilled and just wants to fight, you may have the upper hand.
Fighters are not scared of size for the most part, it is the animal inside of you and your mind state that will determine how you react. Just look at Evander Holyfield fighting the MUCH MUCH larger Russian Valuev. Evander is not small by any means either but Valuev is MUCH bigger and that didn’t change anything.

Of course I am going to an extreme here to prove a point between two professional boxers. But an out of the game guy (I’m assuming for a while) who hasn’t fought in a long time who just bodybuildes compared to a guy who is skilled, fights regularly, and is big as well (we are talking anything over 200lbs) I place my bet on that “smaller” guy.
I’m going to have to side with X on this. I have gone thru this many times. Most times fights outside of bars are done by bullies, thugs who for the most part are preditors they are not looking for a tough brawl they want an easy prey.

And me at 270lbs is not that.

So size is going to play a part in AVOIDING a conflict many, many times in that situation.
Now you do have guys out there who love the brawl that is not what I’m talking about becasue they are not the majority.

I’m about 5’10’’ and 210lbs and before I started using this site because people always told me I was the ‘‘Big guy’’. I assumed I was.

Not any more!

I’m quite handy when it comes to defending myself and my friends if needed. But I’m starting to wonder if I was just an average fish in a small pond??

I mean if some guy was hitting on the Mrs and I came over and told him to f*ck off it would usually work. But what if the guy was X or Waylander.

I guess I’m trying to say that site has kinda put things in perspective, and made me realise that 17’’ arms don’t go anywhere!

Best take X’s advice…

Hamburger Hamburger Hamburger!!!
You are a big fish in a small pond. I knew I was small for a serious bodybuilder when I was 210lbs but the people on this site back then thought that was huge.

I think we have long concluded that most here don’t actually get much done as far as progress.

As far as you, that is not bad progress…it just isn’t that special.

I used to spar with guys about that size. This isn’t about whether someone in a ring fight at 220lbs can beat someone bigger. This is about the simple FACT that most people out for an easy target are NOT going to go try to fuck up the guy weighing over 270lbs with the 21" arms. You may get shit like that at clubs or bars because alcohol is involved and this is when “short man syndrome” seems to pop up most frequently.

I’m not small but def not big. The only thing that keeps me going is that even though I’m not happy with my current physique I have come a long way.

lol of course that completely changes the context…if you look at what deorum said “Being “big” has great returns in self defense but training in combat and gameness will carry you further then the superficial muscles alone.”

So he was talking about actually being skilled/training in combat/gameness…AND THAT WILL carry you further than big muscles…and it’s completely true. Just the fact that X said complete bullshit to that was kinda surprising actually.

And to what you said, since Deorum wasn’t talking about bullies, thugs, and what not looking for easy prey. You and X are absolutely correct that it will 9 times out of 10 deter the situation of just being big in a bar or whatever. Absolutely without a doubt, 90% of guys do not want to pick on the big guy.

So I think we are both right, and it really just depends on what kinda perspective your looking at. And either way a skilled guy usually for teh most part will avoid the situation. Anddddddddddddd that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

… someone say cookies??

the ‘meet jay’ effect.

On his own the guy meeting Jay is probably considered pretty big by his buddies, then suddenly a whole new world opens up…

You lose perspective on how big a competitive BBer is because you usually see them on their own or with their peers…training vids, competitions.

Seeing them alongside “fit” guys restores that perspective. Or even better meeting them in person…mindblower.

You’re not alone. I actually am small though… -.-

Most definately true.

Yes, diversion beats “preparedness” even though no one here is saying you should have a goal of not being able to defend yourself…it is just that it does not take some legendary ultimate fighter to get the upper hand in a confrontation since those really big muscles go a hell of a long way in preventing the whole thing to start with.

I think all men should learn how to throw a punch and at least defend themselves in a minor altercation…but it seems that we have many wannabes in fighting lately (really, they have always been there with the hottest fight ticket whether that was karate in the 80’s, wrestling in the 90’s or Ultimate fighting now)…who think they will somehow be invincible to people who outweigh them by 80lbs.

My guess is, most who really think that every big guy can’t fight at all have been in the least actual environments to warrant the attitude.

Agreed.

wheres the OP goddammit!

Sorry Kerley been by the pool all day and was out last night so this is the first chance I’ve had to get to my laptop. A lot of points made, but i gota agree with X. I’m a biggish fish in a small pond, but i pretty much never get in fights as people don’t like to start fights me even though i know i’m pretty small in comparison to some guys out there. Eases my mind a bit becuase i know if i needed to i could hold my own.

Back to my initial point, if X was hittin on the Mrs, It’d be a deep breath, forehead down and hope he hits me hard enough the first time so i don’t get back up!

I’m 5 10 and 220 and I feel tiny here.

Your a pussy, you quitter. Haven’t you ever heard “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog”
Damn even Mike Tyson has chimed in on smaller guys fighting bigger guys…if you REALLY WANNA FIGHT your gonna do well, you have to really wanna though.

You are all puny Humans!

Who says i wana fight? This is all hypothetical. I’ve not started anything to quit…

X would be easy to take care of in a fight. Easily distracted. Hamburgers strategically placed around the location and he will either move away from the Mrs. or never even notice her.
