I grew up in britain and I sure do miss british bacon.
The nitrates and nitrites in bacon are a concern, IMO (preservatives). Lunchmeat, hotdogs, most bacon has them, and they are associated with pancreatic cancer, cell mutation, cool stuff like that.
There may be some hippy style bacon that doesn’t have nitrates… Maybe look at Whole Foods or Fresh Fields etc etc.
Once in a while, probably manageable. Daily staple… umm good luck with that.
Damn tasty though!
dude i rape the SHIT off bacon in the morning

just wanted to second the above. turkey bacon may be free of these as well…not sure. I LOVE bacon though so I just try to eat it as little as possible. I cut out lunch meat and hot dogs and other variosu processed sausages/meats a while back…I figure if the bacon is all i have and I’m not eating a pound a week or something I will be ok.

Is that why I keep hearing about sexually abused police officers in Alabama?!

x3
Luckily like was mentioned there are some hippy-esque stuff out there free of that crap.
I ate the shit outta bacon when I was following the AD - scary really the amount I ate. Now I have it once and a while.
Depends on what brand you buy. There are low fat, organic, nitrate free, different types of cuts, I even saw beef bacon once. I wished to try it sometime.
Main concerns with bacon are
-fat
-nitrates & msg
Pretty much all bacon has some form of MSG. Yes MSG is natural so even most hippie brands contain it in some form (spices, celery salt, natural flavor, hydro protein, etc). I remember reading a while ago some hippie blogging that celery salt is the equivalent of nitrates & how MSG is in everything under different names. Even your whey protein powders.
Now the fat. Most of the forum will agree that sat fat & chol are vital for T-levels. It really comes down to if you can fit the bacon into your daily calories without interrupting your health & physical progress & goal.
Honestly, I’m not so scared of MSG & fatter cuts of meat are delicous! So yes IMO Bacon is awesome!
The fat in bacon may or may not be harmful, it depends on the rest of the diet ie. how much saturated fat already conumsed, carbohydrate content of diet, if the fat is heated for long enough leading to browning and toxic compound formation etc.
Nitrate content of bacon is low in relation to rest of the diet so may not be a concern. Our main source of nitrates is plants.
The main problem with bacon as with many other meats is the heterocyclic amine formation due to heat and cooking. Heterocyclic amines form on the surface of the meat especially when browned and are a possible cause of cancer. There is a strong link with barbecuing meats in Australia and cancer. Bacon could be worse than other meats since it browns easily as it is thin and therefore heats up quick as moisture evapourates. There is plenty of information on this cancer link on the net.
Poss best to cut fat off and cook lightly.
If you want to avoid all the overheated fats causing cancer then BAKE your Bacon in the oven. It doesn’t get as crispy but I find it is much more flavorful and you can cook it in some spices/maple syrup if that’s your thing.
From what I understand, turkey bacon is a lot more unhealthy than bacon.
